I really like this character and for the most part I love this book. But this one and the last one have the same issue and it’s starting to turn me off a bit. It feels like 90%of the time we are covering old ground. We know the story, we have read it. We don’t need reminded of it every time we change characters. It’s also starting to fall into that cliche thing where the hero has to have the shit beat out of him before he can win. This isn’t always necessary and actually take something away from the character in my opinion. I’m sorry this seems like a negative review because it really isn’t. Sam is a great character, his story arc is great and while I do have issues with small parts of the book this is only because I believe it could be much better than it already is. I hope the story continues for many adventures.
A dramatic end is an understatement! Sam Pope is willing to sacrifice his freedom and life to save his ex wife and the children in a hospital ward from a soldier in his past who he was told was dead by his commanding officer. The. Soldier was taken prisoner and tortured for seven years. He accuses Pope of abandoning him. Also he was lied too. Sam Pope is revered by the public, respected by the Metropolitan police Commissioner, Swat team and many Metro officers. A modern day Robin Hood. Another stupendous read in this series!! Enjoyed immensely!!
Another very entertaining story in this enjoyable series. Like others, I became frustrated with the poor editing and the extraordinary amount of unnecessary repetition - given that in each three book series (1-3 & 4-6) each book took up almost exactly 33%, I am wondering whether all the superfluous filler was aimed at making each book roughly the same length (although I can not imagine for what purpose).
Robert Enright has brought us a very welcome British answer to Mitch Rapp and Jack Reacher but he sand his editors could do a lot worse than see how their authors do things.
Continue with the good stuff and iron out certain niggles and you have a winner.
32-2024. Our anti-hero, Sam Pope, endures almost comical amounts of physical injury and mayhem, but somehow manages to get some justice for folks. I won’t do plot spoilers, but you’ve got to know that there’s a bunch of sequels to this novel, so…
The plot zips along, the bad guys are really evil and bad, including some non-criminals. The good guys do what they can to help Mr. Pope. Recommended, but believability problems (for me) drop it a star.
Really enjoyed this book . There's always a plan . So even though he is dumped in a maximum security prison Sam along with the help of his allies is able to bring down a notorious gangster and get his own back or comeuppance on the deputy chief and her underhandling of events and ties with general Wallace. It was sad about how twisted Mac had become after his traumatic experience of which Wallace used to his advantage. Definitely recommend.

I read books 1 and 2 in the series and found them OK and but decided I probably wouldn't read any more . However lured by Amazons 99p offer i succumbed. Obviously a lot happened in books 3&4 that I missed and which had quite a bearing on this book. Again the action was pretty full on but many bits in between were repetitive - going over stuff we'd been told umpteen times. I skip read large chunks towards the end as the ending was largely predictable but dragged out. Relieved to have finished it. Much of the dialogue is amateurish.
The suspense in this book is as good as any Robert Ludlum book I ever read and I’ve read most of them. Interesting and I was holding my breath, at times. I appreciated the fact that the author threw in the pertinent information from the previous books for new readers in case they hadn’t read the other 4 books! Will start the next book when I finish this review!
Great story and good characters spoilt by ignorance of the UK police and prison system E.g. Warden American we have governor. Unless this is being written for an American market and the fear that they would not be able to understand the difference
Another fast paced action packed novel with Sam taking care of General Wallace after his kidnapping DI Singh. Sam surrenders and is sentenced to prison but is sent to a max securtity prison by his friends manipulations to get a criminal mastermind. An old friend who he thought was dead kidnaps his former wife to lure Sam out. Great reading
If you want an excellent read then the Sam Pope books are for you. I am on number 5 of 15 and still enthralled! I keep telling myself I need to read something different to break up reading so many with the same character but can’t do it. Gotta see what Sam is up to!! Thank you for a great set of books! I will continue “to read past my bedtime” with these.
I've read the 1st 5 of this series and I agree with the comments in reviews by others. This is an interesting carrier but although I recognize the writer has to keep his readers in the loop, his continuing updates of characters from past novels in the series leaves a lot of us skipping pages and pages of info we are well aware of...
Love this this series of Sam Pope a man on a mission to stopping crime even though he gets damaged on the way a very high octane read .I stared from book one that i had already read and didn't realise i hadn't read the last two really looking forward to Sam's next adventure .
I kind of jumped to the 5th book in the series which I thought was very good. I will take a shot at the other books, which are hopefully as good. I would recommend this one for sure.
As always this read was jam packed with thrills and excitement. Sam Pope's incarceration with the type of villains he has been taking down and staff who are supposed to protect had my heart pumping, but he was cool, calm and collected as usual.
What a great book I almost felt I was there with Sam and it felt right the things he was doing so we can sleep at night it was so good I read it in a day
Many thanks this was book six I’m now looking for the first five
Wow, such a good read and keeps you coming back for more. Who doesn’t like a hero!! Anyone who enjoys seeing justice done and doesn’t mind things being a little ‘over the top’ will enjoy all the excitement with Sam Pope. Can’t wait to read the next one! 😊
I have now finished all 5. What a read. I have enjoyed every single one. Thank you. At 78 and not being entirely mobile, I rely on books to keep me company. For the last 3 weeks your stories have had me on the edge of my seat and reading long into the night.
I really like this series. Lots of action and even more twists and turns. I will now start to read the sixth book, Man of my Word. A big thank you to the author Robert Enright, and from me another well deserved 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
San Pope was still trying to find the top man who indirectly caused the death of .lots of innocent including his best friend, it had to end. With the help of his friend they succeeded achieving what the police couldn’t. Excellent book
Another explosive read by Robert Enright.. Sam Pope what a man!! I thought my heart would explode at one point . Its fast paced and relentless with action . Im straight into number 6 in this series . I strongly recommend this !
Another excellent story by Robert in the Sam Pope series. All the usual characters and a great storyline. As always plenty of action.Looking forward to reading more
I like the hero Sam Pope the fact he takes on huge challenges and there is always someone who want to do him harm. I like how the author makes some characters very dislikable I have read all previous books can't put them down
Another fantastic read. Brilliant and unexpected turns keeping the reader fully engaged and not wanting to put the book down. So looking forward to book 6.
Another good instalment in the series, This time we find Sam in a black site prison, after pleading guilty to his crimes, but.. does he have an ulterior motive?
