Every now and then you come across an absolute humdinger of a story/series. One that draws you into the author's world with a plot that mesmerises you and immerses you in the feelings and deeds of the protagonist. An epic tale that you connect with and want to follow through reading all the books of the series - the story of Franklyn "Bermuda" Jones and the BTCO is just such a book.
Bermuda is a novella outlining the start of Franklyn Jones' life and his curse of being able to see the Otherside - the monsters of our dreams. We see him at his lowest when his wife has him committed to a mental asylum and we see him rise from the ashes of his previous life to join the Behind The Curtain Organisation and the knowledge that he isn't insane and that there are others like him.
The author is a master with his prose, I felt everything Franklyn was feeling .... devastation at losing contact with his child, deep seated anger and hatred at being "cursed" and a sense of belonging and camaraderie with fellow BTCO agents. A gritty, action packed novella with an agent who is sarcastic, self deprecating and one who hates following rules just on principle, this is one story really has it all. Highly, highly recommended.

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed both Doorways and The Absent Man, its safe to say I was looking forward to reading Bermuda so I could find out how everything came to be.

Franklyn “Bermuda” Jones has been seeing things since he was younger. Horrible creatures that live among us, and when he mentions these aloud, he ends up in a mental health facility because those around him think that he has serious problems.

Eventually, he comes to the attention of the BTCO (Behind The Curtain Organisation), a group who monitor the “Otherside” and try to keep peace between our world and that of the monsters. Franklyn is special, so the BTCO train him up and send him out to work on a case involving the disappearance of people in Suffolk. What follows is an adrenaline-filled story where we learn how Franklyn got to where he is now.

I really enjoyed Bermuda. It answered any questions I had from the previous books and it also packed a hell of a lot in for a novella. Rob Enright has a knack for making you connect with characters, and Bermuda is a great example of this. The emotion and dilemmas that Franklyn experiences really made me feel for him, and I was really wrapped up in his story.

I don’t want to say much more because this is a prequel, and I don’t want to give away anything about the story. All I know is I loved it, and I can’t wait to red the next book in the series.

Bermuda is an action-packed novella, with great characters and some decidedly inhumane entities that will make your skin crawl. Gripped from the outset, I couldn’t put it down until I finished it.

Highly recommended!

Well I was pretty excited when I heard that this novella was coming out. Now I aren’t a fan of short stories as a rule but this was a must, a chance to get to know how Bermuda came to work for this secret underground, in plain sight organisation, that keeps both dimensions of our world working side by oblivious side. In short the BTCO. The headquarters of which are under the Shard in the heart of London. Well I tell you my heart skips a beat every time that I pass the darn place now as it gives me the feeling of being watched from the shadows! In fact no matter where you go in London the building just seems to be there.
The story takes you back to when Franklyn Jones, you get to know how he got the name Bermuda in this story too, was a little boy. A little boy who was terrified not of shadows in the night but what actually came out of the shadows. Oh boy my heart broke for the little man. When he grew up, married and had a daughter he swore he would always be there to protect her from the monsters only he could see. Well that didn’t end well and so the recruitment of Jones by the BTCO has to take place from the padded cell that had become his home.
Now I am drooling as I am reading, just loving the behind the scenes getting to know literally how the other half live! Jones finds out that there is no better way of learning a new job then actually doing it and so it begins. Oh wow and lurking in the shadows is one of my favourite characters of this cracking series.
Don’t hesitate just jump right in either as a new reader to get the gen from the start or like me to find out how it all began. What a treat! Love it! Love it! LOVE IT!

I loved this introduction to the life of Bermuda, before he became the great Bermuda Jones! It was brilliant to actually read his story, and see just where he came from, what he had to go through to start doing the work he does in the rest of the series and how he became the character he is in the series.

I thought the prequel had a good deal of detail and really gave you a look into his world, including everything he lost and the hardships he went through, before they snatched him up to do his specialist work. It helps show just where his personality and style of crime solving evolved from, and gives it even more meaning.

The pace was excellent and true to the rest of the Bermuda Jones series, making a great flow from this prequel to the the next books. I felt really drawn into the book, as well as to the character, as there was just enough to really help you see inside his life and mind, but really leave you wanting to know more about the great guy, all of which you get to discover in the next books. It also had a great feel to it, making it seem realistic, in that things fell apart and then started up, rather than the whole gig just falling into his lap, which I thought was excellent.

Overall, this is a brilliant read and definitely one you should have a go at, whether you are a fan of the Bermuda series or just starting out!

I really love these books, what an imagination Robert Enright has, with the gift of being able to put it into brilliant stories, this prequel to the first book in the series "Doorways" opens up Franklyn Jones life, known as Burmuda, with his partner Argyle an other world warrior, they strive to keep both worlds safe, Two Worlds One Peace, and i find myself with my stomach clenched tight or with laughter bursting forth, as i am immersed into a totally different and frightening world that I thoroughly enjoy.

This is a prequel novella for a new urban fantasy series.
The writing is very well done, and the story moves right along.
I am looking forward to reading more of these.

Bermuda takes us back to the beginning, this is our chance to learn about Franklyn ‘Bermuda’ Jones. We are taken back to Franklyn’s life before the BTCO. Bermuda allows us to understand what he went through and what has happened to make him who he is today.
Franklyn is found by the BTCO and he is showing the BTCO headquarters, where he begins his training. Whilst undergoing training a case comes in that the BTCO decide that Franklyn can handle along with Denham.
So story aside… I’d hate to post any spoilers 😉
I think that Rob has written a fantastic prequel to the other books in this series. Bermuda answers the questions that I had after reading Doorways and The Absent Man. Bermuda clarifies the part of Franklyn’s life before the BTCO as well as the beginning of his BTCO career.
Rob’s writing style grabbed my attention from the very beginning and held me captive until the very last word, and even then I still wanted more!
I felt like I was there right alongside Franklyn experiencing everything with him. His thoughts and feelings felt as though they could have been my own.
Having finished reading Bermuda I now feel as though I understand Franklyn a lot more. Franklyn has experienced so much, he has developed, learnt and grown so much since he was just Franklyn Jones, husband and father!
I like the guy and genuinely do feel for him. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every page of Bermuda and I cannot wait to see what Rob has in store for Franklyn in the future.
Honestly, if you haven’t read Bermuda you really need to and if you haven’t read any of the other Bermuda books you really should, I don’t think you’d be disappointed.

You get to know Franklyn Jones a loner and to the normal world a mental case but to the BTCO a wonderful addition to the team. At the BTCO he found his purpose in life and we get to learn more about the agency and the people who worked there.
We follow him whilst he is going through training and on his first case. We are introduced to is partner Argyle, but the author does not give too much away about his past. Franklyn spent most of his time with his trainer Denham. There was a bond between himself and Franklyn and at the end, I think they were friends. Denham whilst not liking Franklyn's methods knew that he was an exceptional agent.
This was a quick read and it was interesting to follow Franklyn from not having a purpose to becoming the agent who got the job done. Because Franklyn is not as experienced, the story felt more intense.

Not a long story, but it's clear it's just the beginning of the tale. I like the concept, the way the story developed and the characters, as well as the sense of humour of "Bermuda" If I have a complaint it's that it has a number of grammatical and spelling errors which interfered with my enjoyment of the story.... but that would be very easily fixed.
An update! Unlike many I don't usually read reviews before I read a book, I like to make up my own mind, but sometimes will read them after I've finished to see if my opinion is shared by others. I read some of the other reviews and now realize that this is a prequel filling in some backstory. I haven't read the other books in the series, and there's nothing on the cover of the ebook to indicate that it was part of an already established series so I wrote my review based on this book alone.

This is a prequel novella to 'Doorways'. I read 'Bermuda' after I had already read 'Doorways', but it was still interesting to get the whole back story on Bermuda.

I love Bermuda, the hero in Doorways, and who this short book was about. He is the guy you want on your side in a battle. Bermuda is going to do whatever has to be done, regardless of the rules. His sidekick, Argyle, has always got his back. Argyle is an 'other', from the other dimension. I hope his story is coming soon, too.

The characters are well-rounded, the world building is intricate. This is a well-written story, it holds your attention, and then leaves you wanting more. I definitely recommend this book, and this author.

This is the First Robert Enright book that I have ever read and was immediately drawn in and caught up - hook, line and sinker! I can truly say that this is only the beginning of my visiting The Other world. I say visit because of Robert Enright's way with words he has you there in his world experiencing all of it! The characters are fun as well as terrifying if you stop and think about it. Love the sarcasm....ahhh my second language.

Odd, but kind of interesting.

Writing is decent. Story is kind of strange, maybe X-files-ish, but I never watched that series.
I think I am unlikely to buy another book in the series, but that's 'cause this isn't entirely my cup of tea.

Surprisingly good read!

I am not sure exactly what I was expecting when I pulled this book from my reading list but I was pleasantly surprised that it was so different. From the beginning you are led into an alternate universe which sets the pace of our 'hero' getting quickly trained and thrown into his first assignment. Not as a secret agent but as a monster hunter. It is a wild ride and I wished it had been longer!
