I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of this book , with a request for an honest review.
First things first....I am.not usually a fan of novellas. Maybe it is because I am greedy and like a full length book to get my teeth into. However, having read the first 2 books in the Sam Pope series, I was more than a little intrigued to learn about the man behind the hero.
This little novella manages to pack quite a punch. It neatly fills in some of the backstory of Sam, without over embellishment. . Whilst it certainly answers some questions about Sam and his backstory ( for those who have read others in the series } it is also a great tale just of it's own.(Tiny spoiler...there is a huge twist I did not see coming, AT ALL!)
The story unfolds at a nice pace, packed with detail but not cluttered. It captures the brutality of terrorism and conflict, and the impact on both the innocent and corrupt. Sam Pope has clearly earned his place as a hero, but here we also get to witness Sam Pope , the man, with all the frailty, humility and compassion that entails. I loved everything about this book and am currently we reading the rest in the series....another captivating read by a great author!
This episode of the Sam Pope series takes us back in time to an incident mentioned in a previous book. It also introduces us to characters that continue to have an impact on him. I liked learning how he met his wife, it served to show a softer side of Sam, that we don't see much if at all in the books that place after this incident. It's a quick read, but action filled but not quite as bloodthirsty as some of Sam's adventures have been. I received an ARC version of this book and this is my voluntary and unbiased review
Sam and his partner Mac were shot at by a helicopter on a mission. Sam wakes up in a strange room, wrapped in bandages. A local doctor has saved his life. His partner Mac he assumes has to be dead. The doctor is marked for death by the Taliban. Murdered for helping Sam. Sam tracks them to their campsite and dispatches them with a rifle they left behind. Revenge his motive. They murdered a good man. The doctor who saved his life. An excellent read!!
First one in this series and was surprised. This dealt more than just a person running around with a gun, this person also has a conscience. You felt you were in Afghanistan with him dealing with the local population who have a love hate relationship with him and the west. Enjoyable introduction.
An excellent short story by Robert in the Sam Pope series.Great storyline and plenty of action. Sam Pope of course being the central character and doing what he does best.Looking forward to reading more.
doesn't matter at what stage you read this.you will enjoy it. Seriously fast paced novella which answers a lot of the questions from the first 3 novels.
This was free book from Robert and is a short story of just 80 pages. It is about Sam Pope, who was injured in an attack and was helped by a local. 4.5 out of 5.
The Right Reason is a well-paced, action filled short read. It fills in Sam's back story and gives an insight into what Sam has gone through, what has made him into the man he is.
It shows a different side to Sam, I already new Sam ‘the deadly assassin’ but now I feel like I know Sam the man before he became the assassin.
Rob's writing style is informative, fluent, and engaging. Rob has managed to write a breadcrumb trail that captured my attention and had me hooked; wanting and needing to know more.
The Right Reason is another great addition to the Sam Pope series. It was a joy to read and I am intrigued to see what Rob has in store for Sam next.
