Massie Block has long led the Pretty Committee through boy drama, clique mutinies, and jealous wannabe attacks while always in ah-dorable outfits. Over the past thirteen novels, avid fans of Massie, Alicia, Dylan, Kristen, and Claire, have made The Clique one of the premier bestselling series in the world. After the myriad of juicy escapades, the Clique is finally ready for their curtain call. The Clique . . . the only thing harder than getting in is saying goodbye.
Lisi Harrison is the author of the #1 New York Times best-selling series "The Clique", "Alphas", "Monster High," Pretenders," and her first adult novel: "The Dirty Book Club" out 10.10.17. Lisi was born in Toronto, Canada, and lived in NYC for 15 years while she worked at MTV. She now lives in Laguna Beach, CA and is a member or her own Dirty Book Club.
Honestly best book of the series. It was great to watch everyone grow up and make changes for themselves I really wish there could of been after books following massie in her life because she is by far my favorite character. So I guess thanks Lisi for spending your time making these amazing books and clique was the best series I have read so far.
It may sound crazy or weird but I am really upset that this is the last book because when I read these books I feel like I'm one of them. I feel that excited feeling when something good happens 2 them. When they get a date to the dance or something like that I cant help smiling 2 myself and thinking about how Massie Kristen Dylan Alicia or Claire are feeling. they have become a part in me that I will always have.
At the beginning of the book Massie and her parents are poor and Massie is adapting to this new change. Massie is also having a hard time telling her friends. It isn't very long before William block finds a job again but this time its not in Westchester. In fact its not even in the country!!!!!! Once Massie finds out she has to come clean about her almost being poor. When she does all of her friends are trying to help as much as possible. They decide to try to help her an they all offer to have her stay at their houses until the end of the year but what Massie doesn't know is that all of them have something that they are hiding. Kristen was just accepted to the soccer sisters, a traveling Westchester soccer team. Its a huge deal but practices are every day and that would mean no more Friday night sleepover with the Pretty Commitee and no more weekend shopping trips. That was a risk she was willing to take. Dylan's secret was a little more severe. Her Mom and sisters and of course her were on a reality tv show called the "Marvilous Marvil's." Everyday was sacrificed to the new tv show. Alicia...Alicia had no secrets. She was kind of boring in this story, and Claire well Claire's going to move into a new house with her family and its not on the blocks estate. In the end Massie ends up moving to London and meeting a new guy name James and thats where the author leaves us Clique fans.

I cried so much during the fortune telling part when Massie was telling the clique their best qualities and such. Gahh!! Why did it have to end?! If the series continued it would be like Massie had a new clique in england and the PC got another clique member. Why did she have to move?! :( :( :( :( :( :( SOOO SAD...But really good (:

Did anyone else break down crying? I couldn't help it, I've loved this series for years. Farewell to the girls who changed my life.
I feel like these books are a part of me. They helped me survive my first few years of middle school. They changed me somehow. These five girls became my favorite book characters, they became my friends.
Massie taught me to be loyal to your friends, that's the only way you'll gain their trust.
Alicia taught me that despite your flaws, you can still be beautiful.
Dylan taught me that no matter your size, people will still love you.
Kristen taught me that no amount of money can buy you friends.
Claire taught me that being the best person and friend you can be is what helps you through.
Some of the supporting characters taught me:
Layne taught me to be who you are and not care what everyone else thinks.
Skye taught me to be fearless.
Chris taught me that its okay to have your heart broken.
I love these characters so much. I've read the series about 5 times in the last 3 years. They just teach you so much.
Goodbye, The Clique Series. You'll be in my heart forever.
Seven years ago, I thought I had quit The Clique series cold turkey and could go on living without knowing how Massie "I'm so rich" Block's story ended. little did I know that I had just 3 installments and half a year from being able to finish it.
I've quit series before and I'll do it again. But 3 books was such a low demand of my time that I figured I could give Massie and her Pretty Committee one more chance to "wow" me. They didn't.
My feelings on this series are mixed. There are fond ones, picking the first book off the shelf at my Middle School library when I was 11, my best friend mailing me a package with the first book and a pair of argyle socks overseas for Christmas (to this day, she still makes State of the Union In & Out lists). Then, there are not-so-fond ones in retrospect, like how I was 13 years old visiting Florence and wanting to shop at Gucci and Prada, thinking they were brands I *should* be wearing because the Clique was. Brands and names I wouldn't have known about, if not for this series. When Lisi Harrison chose to write children's lit, I don't think she thought of the full impact she had or would have on a young generation of girls who are already confused and self-conscious enough without being told their Ked's are "soooo out." And while many readers are and can be critical not to take every book at their word, there are still many who bought into The Clique standards of living.
Lisi Harrison attempted to redeem herself in the intro letter of A Tale of Two Pretties. Key word-"attempted." She says that materialism was "trendy" in 2002. "When I started writing The Clique, I wanted to show you how despicable bullying, snobbery, and elitism are by creating a character who worked tirelessly to maintain her alpha status." Yes, Lisi, we know how despicable Massie can be from throwing a fish at a bathing suit-clad Claire Lions, dissing everyone at school, calling Alicia fake-Spanish, judging Dylan for her weight, critiquing Kristen on her old clothes, lying her way out of trouble time and time again. But how deapicable can she truly be, Lisi, if you keep writing her happy endings? Her parents are poor? JK, they got their wealth back and now they're moving to a castle, Massie buys a new Louis Vuitton bag and meets a new crush to boot as they fly into the sunset together.
"I don't feel as compelled to shine a light on shallow behavior as I did in 2002." You didn't just shine a light, you darkened everything else and shone hundreds of spotlights on the Pretty Committee, noting every single item of clothing they wore as if it was an #OOTD post on Instagram and dropping in the most current pop culture references or the time (the books were published). These books can't stand the test of time because they are so fixed in their time (they were published) and world.
This is much longer and ranty-er than I meant, but I appreciate that this series did make me feel something and that I could view them with a critical eye when I was older rather than accepting their word as truth when I was younger. Not a series I'll be passing down to future generations of my family.
You know, it may be a bit embarrassing that I still read these books all these years later, but there’s just something about them that make me feel good. I never did read the last book because I never wanted it to end. Well, I finally read it and now I’m sad! It ended great but I would not be upset if Lisi ever wrote more books with them as adults. Or maybe even picking up from high school! I already miss all the girls.
Okay, okay, I know by the title ALONE this sounds like a cheap thrill, and that's exactly what it is.... or is it? The whole Clique series was my escapist literature, filled with the petty antics of preteen girls, and makes me thankful everyday that I am no longer at that age, yet at the same time makes me miss it. Harrison makes the dialogue shallow and yet poignant, something that makes the books that much more interesting and entertaining. The whole series revolves around fashionista Massie and her new roommate/neighbor, the down to earth, humble Claire. As the series progresses, the reader sees just how one person can effect another, and that it often times goes both ways, and ha positive and negative effects. As Claire's rationality and minimalist nature rub off on Massie, so Massie's over the topness and attitude seep into Claire. In the final book in the series, "A Tale of Two Pretties", the girls grasp the fact that Massie is leaving because her family, who had lost all their money, got a job offer in London, where they would be rich. The girls have to grapple with growing up, and moving on, that in life it doesn't matter who you are associated with or what clothes are on your back. And Harrison seems to be trying to tell girls that who they are is all that matters. And I think everyone is always in need of that.
I'm not going to lie. This book made me sad! The Clique is a series that has stuck with me since I read it at 14, and now, 11 years later, I still enjoy it, and I'm sad to see it end! I love Massie, I love The Pretty Committee, and I loved escaping into this rich, high fashion world. It was fun!
I still think there should have been one more book in this series, BUT, I wish there were two books added. How does that make sense? Well, I would have completely cut Dial L for Loser out of the series. I think it was the worst of the bunch, it doesn't really forward the story, except for making Claire stand out more, and it totally (or toe-dally, as Massie says) wasn't needed.
Personally, I would have started out the series with a book before Claire even got there. That way, readers could have seen The Pretty Committee in its hay day, when everything was glittery and fun and perfect. I wanted to see how they operated as a group before they went through major changes. That way, with the addition of Claire, we could have seen how they really changed as a group.
I also think that, instead of the last book focusing on Massie moving, I would have ended it with a summer vacation type book, where Claire, Alicia, Dylan, and Kristen visited Massie during the summer, so we could see how much everything had changed by them being split up. The ending was great, don't get me wrong! It really focused on how much growth the characters went through, and it was an amazing ending, I think, almost tonally perfect, but I still wanted something more. I wanted to see what the girls were up to, PMS (post Massie squad). I've been with these characters for 14 books. How is Alicia handling Alpha status? How does the world perceive Dylan on her show? Does Claire love photography, and does she still love Cam? How big of a soccer star is Kristen now? I don't want to be left hanging!
It was hard for me to put down this book, which I wasn't expecting at all. I reread these to get a dose of nostalgia, to inject light fun into my reading for the year, but what I got instead was a devotion to five teenage girls, and, just like The Pretty Committee, I didn't want to say goodbye.
I didn't know this was the last book of the series until I read the author's note. I found that disappointing, since I was hoping it would be like Toy Story where the characters grow up with you, so to speak.
I liked the ending, though I think the next book would have been soooo much more ah-mazing than the others if it continued from the ending point.
I think in the end, my favorite Clique Girl was Massie. She always tried so hard to fix everything and everyone, never gave up on what she wanted, and still meant well. I felt the most like her, even if Claire matches me more appearance-wise.
I don't see the point of having Dylan in the story, though. I get that she was supposed to portray the humorous one with weight problems, but she's not anywhere near overweight and her burping every single word she says is just plain annoying.
I like Alicia and Kristen, though. They add a good amount of contrast to the book. :) I even loved Olivia, airhead genes and all. xD
We did it, Joe. Fifteen Clique novels done. Did I cry while reading the epilogue? Yes. Was I crying for Massie or was I crying for my middle school self who loved these books? Yes. Do I legitimately think that this is the best Clique novel? Yes. Because it ACTUALLY follows the whole Pretty Committee equally!! And has LEGITIMATE stakes! And drama! And genuine love between the girls!
So sad! I cried a lot reading this. I literally grew up reading these. It sounds silly, but I started reading the first one in 5th grade when Massie, Kristen, Dylan, Alicia and Claire all seemed like these AMAZING people. I looked up to them. But as I grew up...they didn't and they just seemed like little kids to me. However, I loyally kept reading until the end of the series. I finished this in two days, and I wish it had taken me longer. I will truly, honestly, with everything in me, miss reading the Clique books. They're like Disney movies. Cheesy, funny, and they always make you feel good. (: Thank you for these books for the past 7 years, Lisi Harrison. I heart you!
Lisi Harrison truly popped off with this book. It was nice to get chapters from all of the characters for the last book, and it was honestly pretty heart-warming (to the extent that a Clique book can be heart-warming). The letter at the beginning of the book I think spoke volumes to why the series was created and I felt like you really got to see how much all of the characters had matured over the past 14(+) books. The clique books aren't works of art by any means, but they're really fun books to read and I have zero regrets re-reading all of them as an adult.
Well I finally did it. I finally finished The Clique series from YEARS ago. Honestly most of the books were a little repetitive. How many times does Alicia try to be the Alpha? I swear every other book or so. Also I understand they are in middle school but it felt like the guys were like casted aside (besides cam?) at the end like oh we are done with you 😆 I feel like a lot was thrown at me the last few books.

In the beginning of this book Massie's father lost his job and Massie was middle-class for a while. She kept the secret from and suffered weeks if no shopping, eating good food, or having stong heat in her house. While Massie was middle-class, all her friends were doing their own business and didn't have time to hang out with her. Her dad finally gets a new job and they are rich again but, he announces that they have to movie to London. When she breaks the news to her friends, they were extremely upset and the Pretty Commitee will loose their top Alpha (Massie) forever. During The New Years Eve Party, Massie and her friends went to see a fortune teller. The fortune teller tells them that they all have moved on and that it's time for Massie to move on too. She decides to move to London with her parents even though they allowed her to stay with Claire until the semester is over.
Where do I being h the with these books. Well.... first off lets strat with the plot, the plot starts out fresh and inviting but by the of end these 14 books smelling like rotiing fish. The plot is over use and under done its the same stuiped thing again and again. When there fianlly something new it ends up doing nothing to the plot to add any depth. Let us go on to thepeople in the story.... of that is about as mcuh as you get out them all the are are spolied brats. and as my finally statment to say what i though of it is that it is just some stuip book about girls that fight over boys you controls the group and what pruse to buy at the mall and that it about it. it would be better for your brain to watch kim and her stuip family on E!
I'm kind of embarrassed that I continued to read this series, but there was something almost charming about it. The last few books have been less than stellar, and I really didn't think I would care when it finally ended.
This last book ended very well, and I was surprised at how much I liked reading it. All the characters seem to have grown up and are moving on from each other. The ending was surprising, and I liked that she left it sort of up in the air.
I forgot how many pop-culture references are in these, though. I started to roll my eyes at them after the first or second one. It takes me out of the story every time!
OMG! Or, actually, EH-MAH-GAWD! Anyways, NOOOOOO!!!!!! It's the last book in the series! I really liked reading this! Even though it's soooo not extra high reading level like the books I like to read sometimes, but I like this book! Boo....
I just spent the last month and a half rereading this series, and I really can’t overstate how much these books meant to me as a teen and how much they still mean to me now as a 28-year-old. I can’t say currently tweens and teens would like them (too many late aughts/early 10s pop culture references they wouldn’t get). These are a product of their time, but if you’re a Zillennial like me, they’re for you, whether you read them growing up or not. I heart The Clique.
Okay but why did the ending of this series make me so emo??? I loved that this book followed each girl’s story rather than just the usual Massie and Claire story lines. It wrapped up so nicely. Will def read the alphas series and the summer collection soon.
I loved this series but somehow never read the last book until now. Genuinely wasn’t expecting to be so moved by the book but it kept the humor and satire from the other books but also included actual emotions? It actually made me cry and now I want to re-read the whole series
it was an ah-mazing way to end the series that way. i'll admitt that i am a big fan of lisi harrison and the clique series, but in the end, we all have to move on. i've been with this series since day 1 and i'm sad to see it end so suddenly, but it turns out that the pc learned a couple of things in this book that they never had before and now they're realizing it. Massie is finding out that she was broke when her father lost his job then got a new job "'over the pond'" away, which is "'opposite of acceptable'" and now faced with the decision of staying or leaving, but she decided at the new years yves's party that she made the pc, her bffs, into what they are now and that she can't stick around forever, but they'll be fine without them and so can she. for those people that read the book, i mean, hullo? James is toe-dally ah-dorable when she spoke to him, so in that part, she'll turn out ok. Alicia, massie's second-in-command and our all time fave beta, has to come with the fact that she's no longer the beta, but the alpha of the pc, now. at first, she doesn't want it, but after the clothing sale at her house and the money that she raised, she'll be the alpha, no matter what. in this last book, she's doubting her self-confidence on whether or not she can lead a group, since it was "'opposite of managable'" and turned out to be a big flop. she scared, there's no doubt about it on how her expressions are described in the book: scared, her eyes in fear, nervous whenever she's around massie and that secret and the feeling of acceptance and terror when massie hands over her Tiffany & Co. Charm Bracelet to the new alpha. Kristen, is the most different from all of them when i read the series. when i found out that she got accepted into the soccer sisters and she can't hang out with the pc that often, its pretty shocking that she doesn't know how much her difference in the group has molded her into the kristen that we know and luv so much. wheh she accepted and ah-greed with massie's heartfelt words at the party, she knew that differences can be worth while. Dylan is facing cameras and comes to terms that she, her mother and 2 older sisters are still ohb-sessed with their weight, which is the biggest thing when it comes to men and women everywhere, but in the end, dylan accepts that she's beautiful the way she is, with or without Caribbean cleanses and she's the only one that made me spit out soda when she burps out random stuff, but can still keep that self-condfidence and charm with her head held high and not be ashamed at what she's doing, even at the expense that her mom ah-greed into doing a fake time ten reality show called "'Marvilous Marvils'" (how lame is that name?). Claire, our resident "America's Sweetheart" of the group has received some good and bad news all at the same time. On the bright side, she just found out that her parent's have just bought a house and it's right next door to Layne's (which is right on her street) and still close by to OCD (still funny when i think about it: a school named after a psychological condition: GENIUS!!!), while Cam is in a band and we just find out that he sings ah-mazingly well; who knew? he plays soccer, he likes candy as much as Claire, he's toe-dally head over Rock & Republic heels with Claire and will do anything to spend time with her and hear her squeal in happiness. but here's the hitch, when she's been given the news about moving to her new house, she realizes that she's not going to be in the guesthouse anymore and wonder how Massie, the PC's fearless leader is going to take this and to make matters worse: Cam got her a Couples Photography Class for 8 weeks (i think) and starts at every Friday evening. No more Friday night sleepovers, GLU Meetings and most of all: no more seeing her bff ever single day and within walking distance of the door. in the end, she realizes that they all have their own adventures to face, but no matter what happens, and i speak for all the fans of the PC, Lisi and The Clique: "WE WILL ALWAYS HEART YOU FOREVER!!! Lisi, if you're reading this (i hope) i'm sad (as well as most of your fans) to see it end, but thanks for making this story into an ah-mazing series!!!! YOU'RE THE BEST!!!!
I love The Clique series. I’ve read through it three times completely and the first half of the series a fourth time. It’s one of those things I start to miss after a couple of years and end up going back to revisit it.
The first time I read this book, I was sad. The series was over, there would be no more waiting four months for the next part of the story.
The second time it was nostalgic. I had finished the series yet again and was sad it was over, but I moved on to something else.
This time, I was frustrated. And maybe it’s because I’m no longer 16-19 years old, but this book didn’t read like the rest of the series.
First, there were a lot of spelling and punctuation errors. One in particular was towards the end when Massie’s hair stylist’s name was spelled “Jakob,” instead of “Jakkob.” Another was when Dylan’s sister went from “Jaime” to “Jamie” in one sentence. There were a few other errors, and were obviously just mistakes overlooked by an editor. But it didn’t help with the main issue I have with this book: it feels very rushed.
I know it has to be hard to tie-up stories for five individuals after writing their lives over the course of 7 years. But this just didn’t feel like a Clique novel to me. They’re usually FULL of details. From naming the designer, cut, color, and fabric of every piece of clothing everyone in the scene is wearing, to detailed lists and spreadsheets made by the characters themselves. This book had a little bit of that, but it was so fast-paced that you really missed out on those details.
Plus, writing from the perspective of these five girls and their futures and keeping it in the 200-page range had to be difficult. But this book read more like the 5 summer novelas from 2008 all smushed together, omitting dialogue and details, and substituting it for a bitter-sweet wrap-up.
Another thing is Massie. She was so not herself in this book. I get that we want to leave the series on a happy, hopeful note. But we just came off of five previous books that were solely focused on Massie and her controlling ways. The boyfast, the boyFEST, the rivalry against the other girls, the rivalry against Claire. The trailers, BOCD, hiring actresses for friends, controlling who her friends can crush on, as well as who they can’t. Controlling who her ex-friends can’t be friends with. And now all of a sudden she is carefree and easygoing, letting her friends do what they want with no repercussions? Massie would never! It just didn’t feel like a true Clique novel without the conspiring, back-stabbing, and sneaking around. But oh well.
We also got NO Landon. Massie and Landon are finally in a good place in their relationship after two books of build-up, and we get no story from them whatsoever in this book.
Finally, there were a few moments in this book where I had to go back and reread paragraphs because I was confused. There was one point where Massie made a joke to Claire, and I was so confused, I did not understand what was going on lol. I think it just points back to the rush job this felt like and poor editing. One more note about this that I HAVE to mention because, again, I am so confused: page 62, very first sentence: “When Alicia offered to have her driver, New Isaac (because Old Isaac was gone and they couldn’t remember this guy’s name) pick up the girls, Dylan shut her down.” Ummm what? Isaac is Massie’s driver, not Alicia’s. So Alicia wouldn’t have a new driver they referred to as “New Isaac.” And anyway, Alicia’s driver has always been Dean throughout this entire series. So is this “New Isaac” replacing Massie’s driver, the original Isaac, or is he replacing Alicia’s driver Dean? Who knows. Another question I am left to ponder as I shelve this series for a third time. Maybe when I visit it again in 5 years, I’ll figure it out.
