When a yacht is hijacked and taken into the Bermuda Triangle, the passengers and pirates are catapulted into a futuristic world in the center of the Earth, which is inhabited by humanoids from the planet Norona.
Forbidden Fruit She was a stranger to his futuristic world, an outsider in the rainbow-hued crystal city who must not be allowed to return to her home. Yet though Aster would never be accepted by his people, Romulus found himself irresistibly drawn to the beautiful pariah. His fierce ambition made a formal joining with her impossible, but the fever of mating drove him to tangle his hands in her silver-blonde hair, to taste her melting lips, to teach her the exquisite pleasures of his exotic brand of sensuality. How could he deny himself a future with her in this land of desire and delight where even the wildest dreams could become reality?

All of my "old" paperback books are still available in unopened condition on my personal website (autographed if desired) but I am in the process of getting them all into e-book format. www.marilyncampbell.com
I've been raiding my carefully hoarded stash of vintage futuristics in hopes of another Sky Pirate. No such luck. :/
The premise is interesting - aliens far more advanced than us have a colony inside our planet. The beginning looked promising too - heroine and others on charter boat sucked down when aliens were sending something along to their home world(s). Then it fell apart.
I'm not fond of utopias. I…find them creepy, mostly because they always seem to subvert free will to some extent. At least people were allowed to have less than perfect genetics BUT… in the past, that wasn't always so.
So our h and her fellow victims are given a speech, manuals, etc., and told they're stuck here. They're also considered second class citizens though that part is left out (they're earthlings after all). Heroine is not happy about it. Heroine is the only one not happy about it. Everyone else thinks she's nuts. She draws attention to herself by looking at files that are, while not classified, at least not something that just anyone looks at. H gets all hot and bothered.
They enter what amounts to a mating heat, but she's earthling so forbidden. Earthlings have not come up with way to blow away planetoid (shades of Armageddon here), so he and she go to surface to talk to scientists. Bad guy (there has to be a bad guy you know) finds out he's not earthling so has him snatched, he's rescued, they go to his home planet, and are Joined. The end.
So…the whole utopian thing - people who rebel get reprogrammed - bothered me more than a little. The h didn't like what was going on, so one was left wondering if, had she not been his soul mate, that might have been in her future.
Too many threads in the first half. I wondered briefly if I was reading a soap opera. Really - I didn't need to read his assistant and occasional lover getting busy with another castaway - with details, anymore than I needed to read about the first bad guy or his informant.
Which leads to another gripe - the H/h had enough difficulties with the whole inferior earthling angle without having to drag bad guys in the form of a sociopathic drug dealer and an overly ambitious earthling into the mix.
And it was way too convenient that she had a drop of alien blood so therefore his people had no objection to their Joining.
This is my first book to read by Marilyn Campbell. I have to say that I am finding that the Sci-Fi alien romance novels, and the authors have very good imaginations. Romulus was an AWESOME read. The story line rocked and the characters worked with the story line. I definitely will be keeping up with Marilyn Campbell’s works. Hope that in the future I will be able to review more of her works. A definite must read that you will enjoy.
Aster Mackenzie was on a ship that was hijacked and they were taken to a part of the Bermuda Triangle, where she is then zapped into a whole new world she never knew existed. Now she is trapped in the Earth’s core where advanced beings are mining a rare energy source for their home planet of Norona. Only to make things worse, she has captured the attention of Romulus Locke by starting the mating fever inside of him. Problem is that he is the Chief Administrator for the Innerworld and they aren’t allowed to mate with humans.
Romulus is the Chief Administrator of the Innerworld and he wants to the Governor. Once the fever takes hold he is bonded to Aster and it will make them soul mates. This is something he has no to time to explore because they aren’t allowed to have relations with Terran’s as they call the humans.
Romulus knows that there is an asteroid headed toward Earth and if it hits not only could his people be wiped out, so would the entire population of Earth. He risks being captured leaving the Innerworld to warn the people of Earth. Aster has to now convince the Norona government of a long time held secret in order to save Romulus. Will she be able to convince them? Will Romulus and Aster be able to complete their bonding? Lots of mysteries and intrigue. A must read.
I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for my honest review.
Received as free read for review. Great story- the start of book does not prepare you for the real story. Some loose ends but book could be stand alone - bought book 2 Falcon. Great alien/earth series
A solid 3.5 stars for an unusual story line and slightly plausible explanation for why strange phenomenon happen around the world in specific places.. The heroine was hard to empathize with and she seemed to ignore everything around her, the hero was confused but noteworthy, I liked the ending.
Title: Romulus Author: Marilyn Campbell Publisher: ePublishing Works ISBN: 978-1-61417-488-6 Buy Link: http://www.marilyncampbell.com/id72.html Reviewer: Teresa Fallen Angel Blurb: Innerworld Affairs 1 Aster Mackenzie wants to go home. But she's trapped in the Earth's core, where advanced humanoids mine a rare energy source for their home planet, Norona. Worse, she's triggered the Noronian mating fever in Romulus Locke, Innerworld's Chief Administrator.
Romulus intends to be Governor of Innerworld but the moment he touches Aster, the fever takes hold, bonding them as soul-mates. Never has the fever affected a Terran, and intimacy between the races is forbidden; a conundrum Romulus has no time to explore.
The asteroid heading toward Earth is about to destroy both their worlds. Risking everything, Romulus takes Aster with him to Outerworld to warn Earth's scientists and is captured.
Now Aster must face her destiny and convince the powers of Norona to accept a long-hidden secret if her soul-mate is to survive.
Summary: This story began with a bang when Aster and the other people on a yacht were kidnapped at gun point and forced to assist their captures until their ship entered a storm like one they had never seen before. Aster woke to find herself trapped in a world that she could never leave and one that was beyond her wildest imagination. Aster was supposed to believe that they were not only in the center of the world and the inhabitants were aliens form another world. Things got even more crazy when she sees a man she has been dreaming about for years, Romulus. Things on the surface may seem perfect until Aster learned that her being human would alone leave her and her friends at a disadvantage from the start. You would think that a utopian culture would know how to deal with individuals who a negative influences, but when they have to reeducate the kidnappers they may not really understand just how devious some people can be.
It was very interesting how Romulus's people, Naronans, looked down upon anyone from the Outerworld without knowing anything about them. There were obviously some physical differences, but beyond that if it wasn't for their advance technology they were very similar. Many refused to look beyond their narrow vision of what was acceptable to see what they could gain from each other. Romulus and Aster's attraction allowed them to see each other as they were and even with that Romulus had to overcome his own prejudices to be willing to fight for their love. Add to this the beautiful and alien plants and animals from different worlds that brought wonder to the book. I enjoyed how the author cultures and events from the past to enrich the plot for the readers. I look forward to reading Falcon the next book in the series.
Impending doom, political intrigue, a new planet, and romance? After learning that Romulus had all of these juicy characteristics, I decided that I’d push everything on my genormous tbr pile aside, and give the book a go. Boy am I glad I got my greedy reader paws on this one. You won’t want to put this down! I absolutely adored book one in the Inner World series. Miss Campbell really knows how to write some prime beefcake, let me tell you. Break out those portable fans girls. I think you’ll be needing them. After the cruise ship that Aster Mackenzie is on gets high jacked by some evil drug dealers, Aster and company get sucked into one of the inner world doorways via the Sargasso Sea. Unbeknownst to them, there is an asteroid headed for earth in four weeks time, and said asteroid has affected earth’s magnetic resonance; making inner world easily accessible. Who knew you didn’t need a spaceship to get to another planet? Nothing makes my reader heart sing like conflict. Watching characters struggle to make sense of their circumstances and eventually accept them is enlightening. Upon arrival, they not only learn that they cannot return to earth for fear of jeopardizing Inner world’s existence, but Aster learns that the man she’s always dreamed about is in fact real. Much too both their consternation, Rom and Aster are soul mates. Chief Romulus was really a refreshing hero. For one thing, he wasn’t broody, plagued by angst, or arrogant. He was sweet, smart, and capable. Man candy at its best, in my opinion. Once he discerns that the mating fever is upon him, he courts Aster, while contending with saving earth and trying to become governor to a society who despite its technological advances is prejudice of outsiders. The courtship is beautiful to watch though, even when it appears hopeless. One of my favorite scenes involves him trying to reenact love making ala romance novel. Note, no one should try that at home, especially if said romance novel is of the pirate variety. If you don’t believe me, well…Read the book. Overall, I enjoyed the heck out of this series starter. The author builds a world that will be envied by most, and expertly weaves storylines together with a few plot twists along the way. It is evident that many of the side characters are going to get their own happy endings, since she cleverly hints at love being found by some, and I honestly can’t wait to continue the series. You don’t have to be a sci-fi buff to enjoy the book, for there is something in it for everyone.
This book is the first in a series. While it doesn't end in a traditional cliffhanger, the story isn't finished and continues in the next book. There is graphic violence and may not be appropriate for more sensitive readers. Also hot and steamy sex so definitely 18+.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. This storyline is an interesting mix of paranormal romance, science and technology, and environmentalism. There are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing at what would be revealed in the pages ahead. While the pace and the action are adequate enough to keep the reader interested, overall this is an average book for its type.
I did enjoy this book and will at least read the next one to see what happens next in both the Innerworld and Outerworld.

~ I received this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review.~ I ended up really liking this book and I will be getting the next one in the series. It was a slow start for me and took a bit to get into it, but as I progressed I got lost in it. The world created in this book is very different from what I’ve read before (and I’ve read a lot) and as I learned more of it as the story evolved, I liked it.
Goodread This is a good book. Has a lot going for it.twist and turns, mysterious. As with sci- fi it has a lot going on so if you do not watch that you might not like this or understand it. Lol I would recommend it. Grab a copy, a cup of your favorite drink, turn the world off and enjoy. I received a free copy for an honest review.
I enjoyed this read a lot. It was suspenseful, exciting, mysterious, and funny. Excellent writing as far as I could see. I couldn't put it down until the last page was done. I highly recommend it. If the rest go on kindle unlimited I plan on reading them all. I can't say enough about how good I think this one is. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book I have read from this author and I am very pleased that I gave this book a chance. In my opinion the characters are well developed and the storyline flows very well. I can not wait to read the next book in the series. I received this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this, but not enough to read the rest of the series. I found myself confused by the world. I found the information about the alien species lacking and that we were sort of expected to assume things.
