When Alexandra Kane meets Lance Reed, she feels like she is poised on the edge of something big. How right she is. Lance is not who he portrays himself to be. Lance is the leader of a mysterious project called Genesis. His mission is to recruit Alexandra and use her innate skills to achieve the projects ultimate goal-time travel. When Alexandra’s first mission goes horribly wrong and one team member dead, Lance and his team will have to use everything at their disposal to try and bring her home.
Timeless is an emotional story, rife with intrigue and romance, that kept me engrossed till the end. I could not put it down. Ms McHarque’s world is both vivid and enthralling in storyline and characters. From Lance and Alexandra’s burgeoning romance to the turmoil at the Genesis lab, you are taken on a journey in to a rich sci-fi world fueled by imagination and fantasy.
Alexandra Kane is a history professor that is content with her life but feels the need for something more. When Lance first appears in her life she is amazed such a beautiful man would be interested in her. As he romances her; the attraction between them explodes in it’s intensity and depth. It’s as though they have always known each other. Both feel the undeniable tug of the attraction, but while Alexandra wants to act on it, Lance keeps his distance.
I admit I wasn’t taken with her in the beginning. She accepted Lance’s appearance in her life to easily and seemed to have no sense of self preservation. But her character soon comes to life and you begin to see a different side of her. Strong, intelligent, and no pushover. Once Lance makes it known why he appeared in her life she becomes quite irate and non forgiving over his deceptions.
Lance needs to get Alexandra on the project. She has a special talent that is critical to Genesis working. But Lance is charmingly inept when it comes to Alexandra. Described as being incredibly intelligent and handsome-he seems to do everything wrong when it comes to Alexandra. Being a part of Genesis meant he has given up everything. Including relationships. What he feels for Alexandra is nothing he has ever felt before and his confusion and fear is plausible through out the book. His mission to get Alexandra on the Genesis project is his prime objective and nothing can get in the way of this. Including his feelings for her.
The cast of supporting characters are rich in detail, personality and humor. They will stay with you long after you put this book down. I found myself wishing the book would have gone on longer so that we would get to know each of their back stories. I am very curious to see the relationship between the founder of Genesis and Alexandra’s uncle. The villain of the story is so chillingly evil in their normality that it made their betrayal that much more intense.
Ms McHarque word building skills creates a effortlessly flowing storyline that makes you feel you are right there in the middle of the story experiencing it right along with her characters. The romance and suspense are intertwined from the beginning and enhance each other till the end.
The ending is a brilliant twist of Machiavellian proportions that will leave you reeling in shock. Many readers will be waiting for the sequel to this story. I know that I will be.
