In all, I must have watched Billy Wilder's 'Some Like It Hot', a comedy about two musicians who dress up as women and join a women's jazz orchestra, in order to escape gangsters, about 20 times. I am certain I can watch it 20 more times and still be thrilled by it, it is beyond any doubt my favourite movie of all times. Knowing that my husband loves it just as well as I do, is proof to me we are a perfect couple. We watched the 1959 movie - older that I am, yes - again last night, what made me return to this smelly old pocket book I managed to score someplace in a backroom joint. It is a film script with minimal notes on the backgrounds, but I see all movie scenes right before my eyes, while I could say the lines out loud. 'Some Like It Hot' has a brilliant script, all the lines have double entendres and jokes, and the story guides you from one surprise into another. Whenever I just see the book or dvd sitting in the bookcase, I feel comforted, because I know a gateway to better world that can be accessed anytime.
Hilarious fun, a bit naughty, witty dialogue, snappy scenes, and subtle innuendo make this a favorite story of mine. Originally a 1935 French story, it was remade in West Germany, and remade again in Hollywood into the movie most people know.
