I took two semesters of college physics back in 1982-83. I didn't do all that well – I think I got B- grades – and I found it to be very challenging. Now, forty years later, as a retiree who is trying to keep his mind sharp, I thought I would study up a bit on the subject. I found this textbook among my son's belongings from his college days and thought it might be a good one for me to brush up with. Well, I did okay with some of it, not so well with other parts.

It really seems like a lot of the material could be explained a lot better. But overall, it is probably a good book for college science majors, not so much for novices.

Used this textbook for my AP Physics 1 class. It was good enough. It had as much depth as you can get without using calculus to derive equations, and the example problems were pretty helpful. I still think the version of this book with calculus is better for getting a true understanding of fundamental laws, where they come from, and how they are used to derive other equations/relationships.
