The Portrait Library
In creating these portraits, I maintained a commitment to viewing intimacy that had characterized the Jazz Books. Book-size portraits were placed into clear binder pages and serialized in dark, hardcover binders to evoke the feel of family photo albums. The casing of the works and the staged encounters emphasized the difference between viewing art on a gallery wall, and informally spending time with art on a comfortable couch or chair.
