Objects are inherently impermanent—they have a limited lifespan. Many objects, however, are around for a long time, and some of these gather sentimental value. I think a lot about my semi-permanent objects; some things bring back memories of where I got them, some remind me of people, some are the most functional, and some have simply been in my life for longer than most things I own. Perhaps it is because it’s so easy to choose a favorite something, and to become so fond of it. This emotional connection leads to objects with personality. These objects have somehow attained a higher status—they are more authentic. Everyone has things like this, troves of things, and the photographs show these things in their individual, semi-permanent world.
