"The Heart of Worship, compiled by Matt Redman with input from Louie Giglio, Mike Pilavachi, Tim Huges, Chris Tomlin, Graham Kendrick, Brenton Brown, Brian Doerkson, Darlene Zschech, Charlie Hall, Don Williams, Chris Jack [London Bible College], Steve Nicholson [Vineyard] Les Moir, Martytn Layzell, etc." There is some great content which Matt Redman is editing/compiling. The book's core audience is aimed at lead worshippers/musicians, etc. One third of the articles are of a practical nature - a lot are biblical insights into worship so the book has a wider appeal than worship leaders only. With input from the likes of Louie Giglio, Don Williams, etc., that is the case.
Matt Redman is married to Beth and they have five children. His journey as a worship leader and songwriter has taken him to countries such as South Africa, Japan, India, Australia and the Czech Republic. Along the way he has sung in venues such as Madison Square Garden, Wembley stadium, and the Royal Albert Hall - as well as recording in iconic studios such as Abbey Road in London and Capitol Records in LA. Matt’s best known songs include The Heart of Worship, Blessed Be Your Name, Our God - and the double-Grammy winning 10,000 Reasons. More recent co-writes include Do It Again and Build my Life.
Great compilation of short essays on the heart of worship from many mothers and fathers gathered together by Matt Redman, with some of his own contributions included. Lots of powerful stuff to sit and digest, so best read in small bites.
This book was a short collection of articles collected from the Heart of Worship website covering everything from practical worship leading tips, to creative insights, to studies of worship from both the Old and New testaments. It was a quick read but was full of many great reminders about why worship is important, how we can all grow in our worship, and what it truly means to be a worshiper.
Favorite Quote: "So my question to myself recently has been, Can still hear to play? In other words, Am I finding enough space and peace in my life to hear the voice of the Lord prompting me and the song of the Lord inspiring me? As lead worshippers, it's essential that we find space to breath, time to think, and moments to listen to the still small voice."
I didn't expect too much of this book when I started, but it surprised me. There was more insight than I expected and some really in depth analysis of both this ministry and biblical worship. I already had a great appreciation for some of these artists, and now even more so. Though this is by no means the greatest book ever written on the subject of leading worship, it reminds us of what it is really all about, and what our focus should always be. I recommend it to worship leaders and all Christians alike. Even if you're not gonna write music or get up there on the podium, the topics touched upon here are wonderful for all of us to be reminded of.
Very good compilation of diff. perspectives of worship leaders in the contemporary Christian music scene. I learned how it is important to tune our song-writing/musical composition even more to please God with the aid of the Holy Spirit, and it is helpful to discern between pleasing worship, and worship which focuses far too much on us than Him.
This is a small, quick read, full of mini-lessons on topics relating to musical worship. It features a number of contributers on topics both theological and practical.
