Capri Sweeten was once fun. She was fearless, leading her childhood friend, Matt, on spontaneous adventures like shooting bottle rockets, sailing on the lake, and holding secret meetings in their clubhouse. But that all changed when a business scandal forced their families apart, and Matt and Capri moved away from each other. Now, Capri’s focus is on college classes and work, and she has no time to waste on anything else. Not even on her sort-of-boyfriend, Lance. When Matt unexpectedly comes back into her life, Capri suddenly finds a lot more room in her schedule. But even she’s surprised when she agrees to help Whitney, her roommate, test a unique dating app she’s coding. (The fact that Matt also agrees has nothing to do with it!) As the two embark on the app’s suggested dates together, Capri slowly recaptures her carefree spirit…and her feelings for Matt. Just as things seem poised to take off, Matt and Capri are horrified to learn their parents have been secretly dating and they are soon to be stepsiblings. Matt begins to question if they should be together under the circumstances but Capri can’t let him go after she just found him. Her new goal? Break off the wedding so they can have a chance at love that’s (relatively) uncomplicated.
Stacey Potter has been motivated to write stories about life’s challenging events and the strength and resiliency of women based on her graduate education in psychology. She describes her stories like a game of “two truths and a lie,” since she writes from personal experiences. Stacey lives with her husband and their four teens in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Capri and Matt were best friends since birth (literally born a month apart). They and their families did everything together until a business deal went wrong and the families parted ways. Matt and Capri didn’t see each other again until they end up at the same college. She’s an athletic trainer and he’s a football player. The two reconnect as Capri is helping Matt recover from a knee injury. Everything is great between them until their old family drama rears its ugly head.
This was such a good book! I just loved both Matt and Capri’s characters. Both of them were so determined to reach their goals and help each other along the way. They were so sweet and so good for each other. I loved Whitney, Capri’s roommate…especially the dating app she helped design. It was so much fun to read about the fun dates they got to experience because of the app’s suggestions! If you enjoy childhood friends to lovers, I think you will love this one! A sweet story of friendship, love, and overcoming.
Thank you, @stacey for the eARC of this one! You can pick it up on Valentine’s Day!
Such a fun read! This child friends-to-lovers contemporary romance has fun banter, family drama and a smidgen of spice. Capri and Matt won my heart with their path down memory lane and true connection they have for one another. While reading, I laughed with the characters but also wanted to shake them silly. And the ending had me sweating with suspense! I thoroughly enjoyed this read and would highly recommend it to romance readers!
BOOK REVIEW- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (rounded up to 5 stars for GR)!
My Thoughts: Thank you to @staceypotterauthor & @hadleighhousepublishing for a copy of Relatively Complicated in exchange for an honest review. I loved Stacey's first novel, The Project so I was thrilled to be able to read her second book! This is such a cute story and brought me back to my college days. One thing I love about Stacey's books are the nods to Minnesota in them. This college romance is light hearted & fun but it also explores topics like letting go, family issues, and not holding oneself to such high standards. I loved it and I know you will too! Relatively Complicated is out now and it would make the perfect Valentines or Galentines gift! 💕
Relatively Complicated is a story about two childhood best friends, Capri and Matt. They have pretty much been in each others lives since infancy. They shared all of their milestones together, from crawling to walking to biking, etc. See, their parents were business partners / best friends for years so when it came to Capri and Matty, their friendship was pretty much destined from the start. Unfortunately, Matt's father doesn't make the wisest choices when it comes to the business and eventually drives the business (and their families) into financial ruin. The friendship among the parents is severed, the families move and the kids completely lose contact with one another.
Fast forward to present day, Capri is now at University studying to get her degree in physical training. When she's not nose deep in her books studying she's working alongside the schools coach out on the field. One hot afternoon, as she's standing on the sidelines, one of the football players takes a hit and lays injured on the field. As she kneels by the player to talk to him and distract him while the coach surveys his injury, Carpi is taken aback when she realizes she seems to recognize the player. Her childhood best friend that she hasn't seen in years, Matt, is staring right back at her. As time goes by the two of them begin to reconnect learning about who they are today and take a trip down memory lane, bringing up both the good and the bad. Will these two be able to reconnect as the friends they once were? Or will the drama from the past (and present) be too much for them to get past?
This is a story about friendship, love and overcoming obstacles. If you're looking for a quick, light, fun-loving romance to read this Valentines, Relatively Complicated is a great choice, pick it up TODAY 02/14/23!
A huge thank you to Stacey Potter for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. Really enjoyed this one, happy release day!!!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Relatively Complicated, Stacey Potter February 14, 2023
Thank you @staceypotterauthor and Hadleigh House LLC . I recived this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Relatively Complicated follows the story of Capri and Matt, a college football player and the student trainer who is helping him heal from an ACL tear - but, Capri and Matt were childhood best friends. Their lives were intertwined until Matt's father's shady business dealings lead to financial ruin for both families and the dissolution of Capri's parents' marriage. Sparks fly, but there is so much baggage to sort through and when Capri's mom and Matt's dad announce thier engagement, a wrench is thrown in their romance.
Relatively Complimated is a sweet story of friendship, love and perseverence. Like Stacey Potter's first book, The Project, this book includes a sense of empowerment and importance of relationsips and does not dissapoint.
Relativley Complicated is set to publish on February 14th and would be the perfect Valentine's gift for yourself! #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #hadleighhousepublishing #relativelycomplicated #staceypotterauthor #staceypotter #romance #chicklit
Aww sweet love. I definitely have to read more Romance books because since my choice is usually thriller, I thought everyone was going to turn mean and a twist was going to come. This was a fun read though, a fresh breather. It has a good storyline. Two kids that grew up together, lost contact, and reconnected into a loving relationship. And Whitney’s app?! Can it be a real thing?! I sure might take some of the ideas myself for a date night. I’m happy I won the giveaway to read this book and I’ll gladly be reading more from this author!
This is such a sweet childhood friend sports romance. Capri and Matt are so fun together and I enjoyed the memories they shared leading up to the love story of today. A perfect read for Valentine’s Day ♥️
The childhood friends to lovers is always such a heart tugger. Capri and Matt were best friends since birth, pulled apart by crappy life circumstances. Once they reconnected, they both admitted to having crushes on each other as kids (soooooo cute 🥹🤍). But as life does, they are thrown yet another curve ball. This story was so sweet and fun. The concept of the situation was really funny and intriguing. I LOVED the dating app aspect of it. That was so so cool. I think something like that would be amazing in the real world. Even married couples could use it😂🙌🏻
Totally worth picking up if you are looking for a fun and lighthearted read.
**It is very obvious that ✨things✨ happen. But it's written very pg and non-descriptive.
In this estranged best friends to lovers Capri and Matt are reunited on the football field where April is an athletic trainer and Matt is on the football team. An injury leads Matt to Capri’s table for physical therapy.
While they lost touch due to family drama between the families, they miss the friends they used to be.
When her roommate needs help testing her dating app coding Matt helps Capri find her adventurous nature again and realize just how much they missed each other, and how easy their friendship was once.
This had fun banter, and was light and sweet with some drama towards the end.
I received an arc for review, all opinions are my own and given freely.
Stacey Potter is back, this time with a sweet romance filled with adventure! I read Stacey’s debut novel, The Project, back in 2020, published by the wonderful team at Hadleigh House Publishing, and I absolutely loved it. Although this book is quite different from her previous, it’s still got the charm and is just as beautiful to read for different reasons!
Relatively Complicated is such an uplifting read that is easy to get lost in! It’s a sweet story of second chance love, about two childhood best friends reconnecting. Along the way, we get plenty of surprises, uncertainty and adventure, but most importantly, it’s a ton of fun. The main characters are excellent and filled with personality, and the surprisingly deep storyline really kept me excited to pick this book up each day. A really great read for fans of friends-to-lovers romance and I’d recommend to anyone looking for a new author in this genre! Stacey really is one of the best!
cute new age romance! every summer after-esque in the sense of childhood friends rekindling later in life (in this case college). biggest squabble is the ending was reeeaallly rushed.. i wish it would’ve been slower & a little more realistic
Great 2nd book by Stacey Potter! Very interesting and hard to put down. I kept thinking about the book while I was at work and couldn’t wait to get home to find out what happened with the characters. Very fun read!
This book is so lighthearted and sweet with childhood friends-to-lovers navigating through their college romance and family issues. If you love a good college sports romance with strong characters, check this one out! 🏈🥰
