This book, written from opposing points of view of detainees and detainers, shows the unfairness of the French custody system, from an epoch when the accused didn't have rights to a lawyer for their first interrogation, only a decade and a half ago! The system has changed since then, but many of this book's citations still hold, notably "La mécanique infernale" and "La logique du cachot." Those who know of Marie Olympe de Gouge may recall she was denied rights to a lawyer even for her trial.
