Among the best books I've read on film. Zanuck was the most talented of the moguls – a brilliant editor, of both celluloid and scripts – and above all this book shows his innate sense of story. It's secondarily a portrait of an industry in perpetual flux: financial and, partly as a result, technological. There is no complete Zanuck archive, so Behlmer did a hell of a research job pulling together papers from numerous disparate archives. The results are a godsend for anyone interested in this period of cinema.

Fun to read about the Zanuck years at Fox. Interesting how story and subject resonating with audiences for a film's success was just as important in the 40s and 50s as now.
