Megan, young widow and workaholic at a television station, desperately tries to avoid her late husband's former boss - with whom she once shared a kiss - but Josh wants her again and will stop at nothing to have her.

Not my favourite Sandra Brown. Loved the besotted hero but heroine was so obstinate and unreasonable I couldn’t understand why he is so obsessed with her.
This was the first time I had read this book and you have to remember to read it in the context of a book that is over 30 years old. You cannot read it as a contemporary romance or you will gnash your teeth and start drinking. Brown is a very good author and when she wrote this, styles were very different. She probably pushed the boundary a bit by having a heroine who was so much her own woman by having a powerful job, one that wasn't beholden to a male for direction. This story was a case of love at first sight, the night before the bride marries a different groom who subsequently dies a few years later of a heart attack. The night before the bride met the groom's boss who kissed her and took her breath and her heart away. But she then blamed him when her husband died. Fast forward a few years and they are thrown together and the sparks erupt into flame. This worked well in the 80s. An older, experienced man and a young, innocent woman. But now it is irritating. And her ideas to make him jealous sexually were childish not provocative. Today the question would be asked whether he was a stalker rather than merely interested. It is fascinating how things change in 30 years.
My mother and I share an Amazon account for Kindle books. She purchased this and after reading the premise of the book, I decided to give it a go. The main character, Megan, is irritatingly petulant and I often found her thought process to be somewhat irrational. The often combative nature of the courtship makes me wonder how they could even stand to be in one another’s presence. The love interest, Josh - what a pompous douche with colossal boundary issues. Definitely a guy that can not take no for an answer. That line he had about Megan being “the perfect combination of professionalism and femininity” paired with his observation that “most women would love to cut a man down to size,” having been written by a woman, makes me CRINGE. I didn’t know professionalism and femininity were mutually exclusive. The comment Megan makes about not being “sophisticated when it comes to sex,” reads to me like she is a rigid prude who judges other women for enjoying sex. Josh’s line about wanting to see how the stripes on her blouse “dip and swell so beguilingly” - men don’t talk like this when attempting to seduce a woman. Not unless they are a septuagenarian.
I only found out this was originally published in the 80’s after the fact. Considering the times we are living in right now, this book is especially cringeworthy. Keep that in mind when reading.
Temptation's Kiss is another early book by Sandra Brown. I did enjoy this one. I liked Josh's character better than Megan's. I thought she was a bit wimpy for the "tough" business woman that she was trying to make herself into. I also thought she was a bit naive when it came to her late husband. This may be be the result of the time in which it was written. I liked Josh's pursuit of Megan. It's always nice to see the man know what he wants when it comes to love; none of this, "do I or don't I. This is a nice little romance and I think it's worth picking it up. I picked up the audio version because I couldn't find a paperback copy of it. You may have to peruse the used books stores for this one if your library doesn't have it.
Sexy and romantic but like most early books quite cheesy and melodramatic. A hero whoz hell bent to have the heroine in whatever way possible and hence goes about manhandling manipulating and abusing the profession they are engaged in and the viper heroine becomes a malleable putty in the presence of the hero, some sexy steamy scenes in between...these are all quite the staple fodder for most of these books but still it makes for a cozy read especially when one's mind cannot be put through any hard and thoughtful reading. On that note I liked this early book from Sandra Brown for a cozy afternoon reading.
I actually loved how down bad Josh was for Megan. He fell for her the night before her wedding and thought all was lost but then when her husband died, he waited. The man had the patience of a saint and waited years for her. It sounds like he was celibate during this time. I did think it was a fun cat and mouse game between the two of them. Megan got a bit frustrating but nothing too bad. A fun older contemporary romance from SB.
I mean it’s pretty dumb and problematic, with no real conflict and flowery language by the third act. But boy did I have fun despite it all! The deeper implications of consent, gender, and gender roles were unnerving at best (very troubling at worst) even for something published in the early 80s.
More from the summer of romance (and this book is rated on my five star romance scale)
As I plow through the romance genre, I decided to pick up another book of a well known, somewhat old school romance writer. Although I don't think I'll be picking up most of Ms. Brown's back list, I was not disappointed. She is a skilled story teller who kept things moving and really made want to head to Hilton Head island immediately.
I didn't love the book because I did not like the characters very much. The book appears to reflect the state of romance at the time it was written. The night before her wedding, our heroine Megan, meets her soon to be husband's boss, Josh, who kisses her passionately and tries to get her to break off the wedding. She refuses. Her husband dies less than a year later and Megan goes on to build a successful career managing ad sales at a local TV station. Little does she know Josh has been the puppet master behind her throne, steering the job and then sales her way. And that's just the beginning of the creepiness. He brings a big ad buy for a resort to the station and insists that Megan be on the file, and later accompany him to the resort for opening weekend. Her boss helps him enforce his wishes. Really. Yeah. Not going to happen in this day and age. This one's got a sexual harassment lawsuit written all over. And his stalking, well, it's creepy.
Again, perhaps when it was written this behavior would not be as taboo. And Ms. Brown is a good storyteller whom I doubt would frame things this way in the 21st century. It's not a bad romp and I'm not sorry that I read it. i just wish the herione had more of a backbone.
This book hit a couple of nerves when I read it. I recently left a job with a toxic work environment and management issues so painfully similar to what's portrayed here, though the career field is completely different. Also, the relationship issues here smack so much of institutional sexual harassment it's sickening, and remind me of Memoirs of a Geisha in all the worst ways. The hero comes across as a creepy, obsessive stalker of an employer who often goes out of his way to help the heroine out professionally (grooming) then demands her attention and love in return (among other things). The heroine is an idiot who manages to singlehandedly ruin herself in spite of the hero and reaches "too stupid to live" level by the end of the book.
I was kind of disappointed in this book, being a huge fan of Sandra Brown novels in general. This is definitely a romance novel, rather than her more thriller novels, which is fine. My biggest problem was that the female protagonist was very wishy-washy through the whole book and the male protagonist had very little character development, in terms of an identifying cause to his miraculous change at the end of the book. Josh starts as a chauvinist, and somehow, by the end of the book, he's actually this really sweet, caring guy. But there's no good reason as to this drastic change in personality. And Megan spends most of the book either lusting after Josh or vowing that she hates him and wants nothing to do with him. I was underwhelmed this time, sadly.

The H gets all the stars in this book he really is completely head over heels for his h and we all know it pretty much from the start of the book. This one is worth checking out for the seduction on the swing alone
The h is pretty darn horrible to him for the majority of the book mainly because of her own guilt and the H just keeps coming back for more because she is it for him and he will do anything to have her in his life.he is also sensible, doesn’t use OW indiscriminately and let’s h get away with all kinds of shenanigans.
The H is the boss of the h’s now deceased husband. They meet the night before the wedding and it’s love at both sight for both of them although the h doesn’t really identify it as such at the time. They share a kiss in the gazebo and the h is mortified at her reaction and berates the H as he knows she’s marrying his friend/employee. Our older wiser H was not expecting love having never found it before so he’s stunned by the h and although h exerts no pressure he hopes the h will not get married because how could she when she’s now met him and responded like she did?
She tries to avoid him like plague afterwards and a year later her husband dies of a coronary while the H performed CPR etc. she blames the H for working him too hard ans ignores the fact he smoked 5 packs a day and drank excessively etc.
After the funeral the H tries to contact the h but she’s having none of it accusing the H of working the hubs to death he knows she needs tome so leaves her alone for 3 years then when he’s given a business opportunity to get back into her life he seizes it with both hands. He also dumps his rather nice fiancée the day after the funeral because his love is now free and he’s going to try everything to be with her and knows he can’t mess the other lady about. He was settling because he wanted a family and knows the h wouldn’t leave her husband.
In the meantime he’s looked out for her made sure she got a job she wanted because he knew she was amazing and looked out for her behind the scenes but when one of her samples guys mucks up he is all over his chance he owns an ad agency and she’s a sales manager for a tv station.
I liked the h because he always respected the h’s boundaries while forcing his company on her. He stopped every time she asked and was super understanding when she really didn’t deserve it. Our h had decided to get revenge on the H by making him fall in love with her and dumping him but really she was setting herself up for a fall because she cannot resist this guy.
He was very honest with her explaining he fell in love with her was devastated and got drunk for 3 days after her wedding, wanted to kidnap her, declared he was in love all along, told his fiancé he had fallen in love with a married woman and told the h up front he loved her and wanted to marry her.
They have a silly fight at the end where both over react but they are both very mature about it in the end and neither makes the other suffer which is a bonus. The H is defo a keeper but I want to know how he got his eyebrow scar! The h is a bit of a Beotch but the H wants what the heart wants so all is well in Loveland.

Finally! A gem. Been awhile since I encountered one amongst Sandra Brown’s old novels (first one I found was The Silken Web, which I did enjoy thoroughly).
Sure, the themes of hypocrisy by the heroine and adamant pursuit of the hero are still alive and throbbing in the book, but I just love those elements when used correctly.
Joshua Bennett saw Megan on the night before her wedding and he knew there and then that she was the one for him. Unfortunately, Megan is a hypocrite and very much indignant by Joshua’s blatant arrogance and disregard for his employee’s marriage. This started a 3 year hate relationship with the man.
Then they went together on a “business”’trip on a getaway resort in the middle of an exclusive island and things heated up. I like the story for its simplicity. Sandra Brown definitely has shown her sensual side in this book.
I gave this four stars, because at the beginning of the story, I was set to give it three. Then the second half of the book got a lot better. I was angry with the heroine because she seemed to be a conniving person. I admit I felt sorry for the hero. Although he was pretty arrogant. It was a good love story, but I was a bit shocked by how fast she changed her tune. Maybe I just don’t see anyone changing their mind about someone so quickly. Sandra Brown has always been like that for me. Her books are hit or miss. I know they’ll be people that won’t agree with me but it’s always nice to have different opinions.
Widowed Megan Lambert suddenly finds her well-ordered life falling apart. A man she hoped to never see again reappears into her life like a plague. Joshua Bennett is the devil-may-care owner of an ad agency that Megan is forced to deal with. She had managed to avoid him until he suddenly decides to take an active role in both her professional and private life He WILL have her, despite Megan insisting that he was responsible for her husband's death. This book is well written, but the characters left me cold. Megan is a wimp and Joshua is a bully. Where to go from there?
If you are a SB lover, you'll probably read this one just to complete your knowledge of her writing history. Her skill is just not there yet, so it's one of those 80s books that you read nowadays and think "Seriously?". Other than in her later romantic suspense, where the palpable attraction between hero and heroine just jumps off the charts, here their just good-looking and that seems to be enough. Well, not really.
I want everyone to know that the public library did me dirty with the “Blind Date with a Book” but I committed to the bit and finished the book. This book is a product of its time and I hated the toxic relationship and the toxic people in the book.
I enjoyed this book but it’s not one of my faves. For some reason, it’s only told in her point of view and so I couldn’t feel as connected to the book. Loved how hard Josh falls for Megan. The book stretched out a bit but I really loved their happy ever after.
