Collected together in one volume, this audiobook features some of the best short stories of Britain's bestselling author. Millions of readers around the world have relished Jeffrey Archer's short stories. His first collection, A Quiver Full of Arrows, was acclaimed by The Times as 'stylish, witty and entertaining." Of his second collection, A Twist in the Tale, the New York Times said: 'Jeffrey Archer plays a subtle cat-and-mouse game with the reader in twelve original stories that end, more often than not, with our collective whiskers twitching in surprise.' His third, Twelve Red Herrings, was described by the Daily Mail as 'an exemplary collection of short stories.'
Jeffrey is published in 114 countries and more than 47 languages, with more than 750,000 5* reviews with international sales passing 275 million copies.
He is the only author ever to have been a number one bestseller in fiction (nineteen times), short stories (four times) and non-fiction (The Prison Diaries).
Jeffrey has been married for 53 years to Dame Mary Archer DBE. They have two sons, William and James, three grandsons and two granddaughters, and divide their time between homes in London, Cambridge and Mallorca.
The story “À La Carte” by Jeffrey Archer carries an idea of the importance of family values. The main character works as a lowly hotel porter to please his father, then unexpectedly … - the readers can know about it after reading this story.
No one does short stories like JA (ok, after Somerset Maugham who I last read in school or Roald Dahl, who continues to be a favourite) Not only was every story on this omnibus (clearly I’d read some of these under other titles) full of wit, humour and suspense, Archer managed to give me a crash course on everything from art, wine and cricket to even sewers😝.
Dated and very male subject matter is putting it nicely…most of the stories were still fun to read. One was about cricket that I had to absolutely just skip cos I had no idea what it was about. Every man seemed like a bellend. Mostly entertaining!
