American Rebels

Muhammad Ali: "I Am the Greatest"

Rate this book
"I refuse to be inducted into the armed forces…" That simple statement, made on April 28, 1967, changed Muhammad Ali from being simply the heavyweight boxing champion of the world to being a rebel, taking on the mighty United States government. His protest against serving in the Vietnam War had political, racial, and religious undertones, and it led to nationwide discussion of all of these issues. Ali's passion to speak his mind and stand up for his beliefs stood as a hallmark throughout a boxing career that spanned more than twenty years. Decades after his boxing career ended, he continued to tour the world promoting peace and spreading goodwill even as his own health deteriorated. Over the years, he truly earned the nickname he first bestowed upon himself way back in 1964 when he first won the heavyweight "The Greatest."

I really enjoyed reading this book about the famous Muhammad Ali. Especially with this book I liked the mini stories they would put in to keep the reader interested in the story other then just giving out the facts. Muhammad Ali's biography was broken up to his main parts of his life. Like when he converted to Islam or when he refused to enter the army or his epic battles. I would recommend this book to readers that are interested in exploring Muhammad's life in depth through his successes and failures.

I thought this was a great, fast, and easy read. I was interested in Muhammad Ali to start with, and this book was written in an easy way for young people to read. I would recommend with book to anyone, as it was basic, and precisely written and got straight to the facts without any other pointless information. I personally really enjoyed it, and good luck to those who wish to read it.
