Izumi Matsumoto (まつもと 泉), the pen name of Kazuya Terashima (寺嶋 一弥), is a Japanese manga artist best known for Kimagure Orange Road.

His career started in 1982, publishing his comic Milk Report in the manga magazine Fresh Jump. But real success came in 1984, publishing in the same magazine his masterpiece Kimagure Orange Road. Other works include Sesame Street, and Black Moon.

He has recently revealed that he's afflicted with a cerebrospinal fluid disease (stemming from a car accident when he was 3 years old) that has forced him to take 6 years off work, and he now hopes to bring attention to this disorder through his manga. (from Wikipedia)

Every passing day makes me more of a boomer. Like, in my days comics/mangas/movies were so much better than now.
Doesn’t matter if I’m right or wrong, it’s just a matter of perspective, right?

Still, I recently noticed I’m more and more into stuff from way back when. I didn’t do it on purpose but somehow my TBR list was suddenly full of stuff from the 80’s and a bit from the 90’s. It just kinda happened, I swear.

Hence, Kigamure Orange Road (1984-87). A rom-com I didn’t read at the time- as a male teenager I was obviously 200% into Akira, Appleseed and the likes- but wisdom coming I opened up to the genre and discovered there obviously was good stuff there too. So KOR kinda popped up on my TBR. A well noted rom-com from a period I happen to like in terms of visuals because I grew up with them.

So I’m totally biased. The basic plot isn’t exactly mind-blowing. One indecisive male teenager caught up between two girls who are best friends. See what I mean? The guy and his sisters are all Espers too but so far it really is merely accessory to the plot.
But I happened to like the overall fresh naïveté of it all. Old- fashioned plot and characters, old-fashioned gags, old-fashioned art, it all resonated with me.

So do I recommend it? Hell, I wouldn’t know. If you’re in your fifties and grew up as a geek teenager I’d say go for it. If not it’ll all depend on your open mindedness toward stuff from 40 years ago.
Like I said it’s just a matter of perspective.

OK, first thing's first. This is dated, and I read it on a poor-quality .epub from a public library. But it was interesting enough that I'll pick up the second volume when it's available for checkout. It's not the best manga I've ever read, but it was a fun way to kill part of a transcontinental flight.

Syok lihat covernya, ternyata beda banget sama yang versi Indonesia. Yang versi Indonesia memang membuat saya bertanya-tanya :'D.
Ini manga ceritanya sederhana, calon bikin pembacanya geregetan.
