This resource book about children with ADD offers a unique approach to helping children to understand the dynamic ways in which their brains work. This text explains in great detail the various people and professions that help children who are diagnosed with ADD. It outlines that ADD is an Attention Deficit Disorder that affects many children who have problems paying attention at school and home and to other people's feelings. The books illustrations are extremely colorful and assist the text in defining and explaining the various things that students can do in order to help them with their attention spans. As a teacher, I would use this book to help the student(s) that are diagnosed with ADD but also to help other students in the classroom to understand the reasons that children with ADD act out and get into trouble during school. The authors, Marc Nemiroff PhD and Jane Annunziata, PsyD use both their expertise in their perspective fields in both medicine and psychology to make a tough topic understandable and relatable to young children.

My son is 7 and struggling to understand why he now has to take medicine, and this book really helped explain what ADHD is and what those HUGE words mean. He was also then able to open up about his feelings, and the thoughts he has about himself (although, no mom ever wants to hear from their kid that he feels stupid and frustrated, mad & scared) but the book allowed him to finally be able to put those emotions into words by showing how the brain works.

Wish I could find a book that would explain to him Fetal alcohol syndrome, autism spectrum, Sensory Integration Disorder, ADHD AND ALL THE OTHER alphabet letters that he is being diagnosed with -- in easy child like terms. I thought it was going to be as relatively easy as getting books on adoption and explaining birth mothers and forever families... boy was I wrong.

Help is on the way by Marc A Nemiroff is the first ADHD book for a child that I've felt was well put together and helpful for young kids to understand.

Help Is On the Way is a wonderfully colorful explanation of ADD for children. The illustrations are part of the text and descriptions, which would be helpful to hold attention of young children. The authors acknowledge that some of the words used are big and scary, but explain them in a way that children can understand. The book explains the different ways that ADD can affect people and then tells the readers what resources are available and what that help would look like. This would be a good read for children with ADD or siblings/classmates with ADD. It explains the disorder very well in an interesting, engaging format.
