A tedious read. Organized by individual philosopher. I usually prefer to deal with a subject (an idea, not a person) at a time. While I realize that each philosopher covered have few overlapping topics, I still felt it did not pay enough attention to certain ideas. And yet too much to others.

In hindsight, it is theoretical philosophy I have issues with. Which is mostly all of what this book covered. It dealt very little with practical ethics or anything at all relevant. Which is a shame.

I find it terribly bothersome to read about ideas and discussions on things science has long ago answered. What kind of matter god was made of. Or if god can be passive or active, and what each manifestation is capable of.

This book is more of a history of the philosphy big wheels. I'm sure they were popular in their day, but their ideas are just silly and trivial now. Moving on.

It's a comprehensive set of each of the respective philosophers. It starts out interesting enough, describing older more ancient ideas, and progressing onward to more "modern" (think like 1700-1900 era) thinkers. Honestly, it's kind of a slog to get through some of them. I might return to this one day to finish up, as I only have about 3-4 left, but it is a shotgun blast of information to your face. Great for an introduction if you want to know specifically about a certain philosopher as a jumping off point. Bad as a standalone collection to listen all the way through.

The book goes through a complex chain of Philosophical giants and the issue they tackled. It is a difficult book and at the end leaves one with feeling confused. This said, it is a great book to start with in understanding the themes and evolution of Philosophy.
