Jean-Luc Marion is one of the leading Catholic thinkers of our a formidable authority on Descartes and a major scholar in the philosophy of religion. This book presents a concise, accessible, and engaging introduction to the theology of Jean-Luc Marion. Described as one of the leading thinkers of his generation, Marion's take on the postmodern is richly enhanced by his expertise in patristic and mystical theology, phenomenology, and modern philosophy. In this first introduction to Marion's thought, Robyn Horner provides the essential background to Marion's work, as well as analysing the most significant themes for contemporary theology. This book serves as an ideal starting point for students of theology and philosophy, as well as for those seeking to further their knowledge of cutting-edge thinking in contemporary theology.
Marion is hard. Horner isn't tons easier, so it makes for a pretty slow-going introduction. But it's thorough and keeps you from getting glazed over eyes and opens the phenomenon of Marion and his phenomenological prolegomena to theology to you.
Read for my graduate thesis concerning Jean-Luc Marion.
This text was a wonderful introduction to the life, context, and theological and philosophical concepts of Jean-Luc Marion. Due to it being an introduction and summary, almost every sentence in this work packs a punch. Robyn Horner is one of the leading scholars that engages with Marion's works and thoughts, so she offers much to the table when it comes to interpreting such an in depth thinker. I consider this a must-read for anyone who would want to look into Jean-Luc Marion and his intellectual enterprise.
