Agathos (Greek), describes that which, a person being good in character or constitution, will be beneficial in its effect on others. "Good" and "goodness" are two very popular words in the vocabulary of our day. We like to think that what we do is "good" to benefit others. But what really is "goodness"? Before we consider "being" good and "doing" good, we will be needing a working definition of goodness. The measuring rod and the standard has been set by God and not by humans. God is the measure of all things, including goodness and what it means. So we'll attempt to start with an understanding of the "goodness" of God as a harvest of the Spirit's working in our lives. But the fruit of the spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.... - Galations 5:22 23 In these Bible studies from best-selling author Robert Strand, you will learn about yourself and how to relate to others as you gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be in Christ.
Had this book for many years and was without a clue. Yesterday, Sunday Feb 27, 2022 the Sunday School lesson was Fruits of Redemption and the lesson covered the nine attributes they make up the fruit of the Spirit. It certainly would have been a great resource. However, it still was good to discover the little booklet and it included a great workbook resource to help challenge you on understanding the characteristics of “goodness”
Much like the other books of this collection, this is more of a “companion” study guide for a book that I wish the author would have written. The stories are not directly related to the theme, although they are inspirational and applicable, to a minor extent. The written material could be contained in about 10-20% of the entire book.
Goodness is love in action. It's really about being trustworthy and steadfast. It means you do the right thing regardless of the cost to you and no matter who is standing by watching. Goodness isn't flexible, but reliable. It shows concern for others consistently. You know who you are and can't help be confident in expressing it.
