Michael Perman is professor of history emeritus at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He earned his B.A. in 1963 at Hertford College, Oxford University, his M.A. in 1965 at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1965 and his doctorate at the University of Chicago in 1969.
i eally liked the selections here, i almost read all of them. that is surprising since i normally read about half and feel like it's enough.
it would have been nice if the sources that they used were listed anywhere, but it's still a nice overview of what historians have been saying about the secession crisis since it happened. (yes you read correctly, since it happened! you got some fredrick douglass and alexander stephans in there!)
