If kids learned these basic principles in school with regular reinforcement, they would become active learners.
This book could be titled “Smart Communication” or “Master Communicator.” Although more efficient, smarter reading techniques comprise more than half of the book, efficient speaking and writing are also covered. I was surprised by how much I already knew but forget to apply. Rather than try to read faster while losing comprehension, the authors stress reading more efficiently by looking at the table of contents and the index, have questions or a reading goal in mind, scan pages and read first sentences in paragraphs to get the gist. Old hat, but do you think to read differently depending on your purpose and the material? An executive summary or conclusion may say it all when you’re on a deadline.

I appreciate the holistic nature of the book, i.e., thinking, writing, and speaking were included. When a speaker and writer think about their audience’s needs and interests they communicate better. It’s easy to forget that communication is about two parties: sender and receiver. If the sender ignores the receiver, it’s not communication. As a writer, I consider those goals every time I put pen to paper. Since I read a lot for research, I appreciated the reminder that smarter reading is better than faster reading. Maybe I can finally get through my library pile.

The authors gave many examples for each topic and wrote like they respected readers’ time and purposes for reading. Good book for anyone who needs to communicate or read a lot.

Concise and straight forward, talks about elements of speed reading. Gives me different alternatives for pacing.

I read a lot of books on speed reading and accelerated learning, and it's pretty rarely that I find a book that is both clearly articulating the shortfalls of some parts of speed reading, but that also includes some elements of speed learning that I hadn't known of.

The cover looks horrible, if the author wants me to redesign a new / better cover, I'll do it for free as it nearly scared me off the book completely.

The title is a bit misleading. Rather than about speed reading, the course covers ways to learn and communicate. The information is broken down into sessions. This would be good for someone who needs to learn/study materials.

A lot of the book involves reading exercises to practice the skills discussed. These exercises are not available on the audiobook I listened to so I got nothing from them. You can learn some things just by listening, but there is no way to practice or test your what you learn.

Mainly basic information. I did pick up a few golden nuggets, but overall not exactly what I was expecting.

I listened to this as an audiobook.
This is old, and feels like kind of a joke now. Yes, speed reading is a thing, but eh, this book didn't help me with it.

Listened to this and the audio portion is very lacking. They talked more about how being fast or comprehension is awesome to have but most of the time is spent on fluff. Reading workbook is good and I do the list the exercises in there.

Very good if one is committed. There are 7 session's, each around an hour long.
The whole course can be completed within hours. With that being said, apply it to everything you read, and your'll notice the changes - there slow, but it works if you work it.
