Fleur Saville, a beautiful and popular novelist, disappears after an argument with her husband, and it is assumed that she has left him, until she turns up dead
Marjorie Eccles has written several romantic and crime novels, which have been published both in the UK and in the US. Many of her book shave been translated and serialised around the world. She has one grown up son and now lives in Hertfordshire
So-so. Fleur Saville, celebrated writer and local do-gooder, disappears after a quarrel with her husband, introverted bookseller Edwin. Has she left him for another man? When the snow melts, her body is found in a lonely lane. Her non communicative husband is of course the main suspect, but Inspector Gil Mayo and Sergeant Kite quickly realize that the dead woman's best friends might have had their own reasons for losing their patience with the manipulative Fleur. Not to mention their husbands and the attractive art restorer who is only too happy to comfort the bereaved Edwin.
There was nothing special about the book. Chief Detective Inspector Mayo is not a very well-drawn character, and the shifting POVs, whereby we suddenly find ourselves in the mind of a minor character for only a page or two, never to meet him or her again, were irritating rather than engaging.
British mystery writer - lots of twists and an ending that was very good. The "good woman" was a writer that was murdered in a small town. A good page turner.
