According to an anonymous message, a young woman is going to be murdered in the North Carolina mountains. When a body is found, Danielle Tyler is shocked to learn it's her student—the third person in her life to meet an untimely death. Is she next? From disturbing notes and roses left in her office to cold-blooded murder, someone means deadly business. Detective Jack Denton—the stalwart lawman who makes her pulse race—vows to find the deranged madman, but Danielle doesn't dare let him too close. Especially when death seems to be the destiny of anyone she cares about…
I loved the storyline in this one. Danelle who has experienced losing those close to her and Jack a detective dealing with the loss in his own life are thrown together in order to solve a murder case. As the body count goes up so does the tension.
This one kept me on the edge of my seat with one unexpected twist after another. The characters were real and had flaws like most of us. One clue after another didn't seem to lead anywhere and the suspense was building right up to the end which wrapped everything up nicely. Not the way I expected either.
A great read and one I would definitely recommend.
I was into the book with the first chapter. The characters are well established quickly and you fall into their lives just as fast. It is an easy read and I love how God’s love is the purpose but the author is not smacking you in the face with that. Just an easy everyday story that stirs that part of your heart and soul that belongs to God and longs to have more of Him .
Typical formulaic mystery romance and I figured out the mystery pretty early on. So if you're looking for something literary, this is not your book. Saying all that, I really enjoyed the book and it kept me interested right up to the end!!
Wow...This is definitely not a bedtime story! There is a killer on the lose at Webster University. A woman was killed ten years ago, and a young girl killed in response to a hoax website the boyfriend publishes. Danielle's saddened that she has to face this latest murder after dealing with her best friend/roommate's murder ten years before AND her fiance's murder. But detective Jack Denton is on the case. They are attracted the moment they meet. They go out for coffee and then to dinner and...
Well, let's just talk about good ol' Jack for a moment. He's the reason I didn't give five stars to this book which kept me guessing different people until the very end. Jack was like "Oh, let's date." "Oh no, sorry. Let's not." "Okay, yeah let's do this." "Oops, I think we made a mistake..." (You get the picture). And yet Danielle was still totally into him. Now, I can sort of understand where he's coming from, so I want to give the guy a break, but it did get tiring after a while.
I wasn't too keen on the ending. I just couldn't believe that everything int heir lives just suddenly fell into place so easily...
Anyways, I totally loved the mystery, and the romance was pretty good when it was there.
Total dead...Well, you'll just have to read the story and see...
I debated giving this book one star, but it was exciting, until the very end. She twice uses a plot device called "deus ex machina." Here is the Wikipedia definition: A deus ex machina (pronounced /ˈdeɪ.əs ɛks ˈmɑːkinə/ or /ˈdiː.əs ɛks ˈmækɨnə/,[1:] literally, in Latin, "god from the machine") is a plot device whereby a previously intractable problem is suddenly and abruptly solved with an often contrived introduction of a new character, ability, or object. It is generally considered to be a poor storytelling technique by critics because it undermines the story's internal logic, although sometimes the story itself is designed to have an intention to go that route. The first time she uses it is in a "fox hole" conversion of a person who had been averse to religion. The most egregious example however is, at the very end, making a character who seemed, even to the female protagonist, a successful and wonderful individual, have a secret and serious psychological difficulty. This is not fair to her book and most of all to the book's readers.
Sandra supplies many suspicious characters to where it is not easy to figure out the guilty party, which makes for a great suspense book! Danielle Tyler works for Webster College. Her room mate had been murdered 10 years earlier and the case was never solved. When Detective Jack Denton comes to see her she finds herself looking at a website with one of the students murdered. The scene is a copy of Jennifer's death. And it is not real, yet. Jack is attracted to Danielle but he has already messed up in the love department and he sees himself as uneducated next to her. Yet working through two murders they find themselves thrown together often. Danielle has faith in God and has survived the death of Jennifer and her fiance by turning to Him. She tells Jack someday he may face something he cannot handle alone and God will be there. That day has come when Danielle comes up missing.
This is the third book I've read in a series that is called "Love Inspired Suspense" where a bit of religion/faith is in the background. This story was a good one, dealing with murder at a very prestigious local college and one teacher's quest to find the truth. She is joined by a very hardend, stoic detective, and together they try to figure things out. Their relaitionship is one of those things.
