Dana Marie Bell wrote her first short story when she was thirteen years old. She attended the High School for Creative and Performing Arts for creative writing, where freedom of expression was the order of the day. When her parents moved out of the city and placed her in a Catholic high school for her senior year she tried desperately to get away, but the nuns held fast, and she graduated with honors despite herself.
Dana has lived primarily in the Northeast (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, to be precise), with a brief stint on the US Virgin Island of St. Croix. She lives with her soul-mate and husband Dusty, their two maniacal children, an evil ice-cream stealing cat and a bull terrier that thinks it’s a Pekinese.
The first one was good. Really entertaining but nothing I would have dye if I had not read it. It took the paranormal romance we are use to and turn it into some weird comedy. I had some laughs but mostly I was thinking, WTF? I love my paranormal, so to read books that don't take it serious sometimes is a bit annoying for me. But it did have some great scenes, for example when the heroine realizes the hero is a shape shifter she doesn't start screaming and running away from him, she just tells him why would I run from the hottest guy I have been lusting for for so long just because he's a were? It doesn't change the person he has been till now. I loved that. I'm so sick of heroines going crazy when they find out their heroes are not what they seem to be. It was a nice change of pace. Still THE STORIES IN THIS BOOK are short and not very deep. Actually very superficial, but a bit fun. It will take you at the most 4 hours to read each.
Book 2 2.5 stars
This book was better than the first because as the hero was not the alpha less weird things happened. If you really wanna get into paranormal and talk about shape shifters, alphas, etc. you need more pages. My problem with book 1 was that it got much more paranormal in it that pages to really make sense to it, so I didn't really enjoyed it that much. This story was better. Just a sweet, cute romance with a bit of paranormal romance in it. Still I don't think I would lose anything by not reading this book. There's nothing memorable about it. This genre is just not what I like the most.
Book 3 3 stars
I LOVED this one. It was much better than the first 2. The series is getting better. While the first 2 book were ok, this one was really good. Now I even wanna read the next not just because it's part of the series but because sounds good. In this installment we read about the Pride Marshall and his mate. But in this installment we face a real enemy, one who got to scare the sh*t out of me. I was really worried about the main couple because the enemy seemed much worst than anything they could face. Also we are introduced to wolf shifters in this book. Now things are starting to get interesting. I can't wait to read the next. I really liked book 3. But I think that to really be able to appreciate it books 1 and 2 should be read first. All easy and fast reads.
I do think this whole series is WAY overrated. It has an AVG rating way to high, around 4.36. I mean, it's a fun and entertaining read, but that's about it. Although book 3 is definitely worth it IMHO, I had a nice time reading it because the plot was a bit more interesting.
Collection of the first three Halle Shifter stories.
The Wallflower- Emma has always had a crush on Max but thinks he doesn't find her attractive at all. Max wants Emma as his mate. This story was world building, character introduction and yet managed to be steamy and sweet.
Sweet Dreams- This is the logical next step in the series as these characters were introduced in the first story and hinted at. Becca badly wants Simon but keeps him at a distance. He decides to push the issue, the result is a sweet and sexy romance.
Cat of a Different Color- Sheri is a legally blind puma on the run from an abusive ex. Adrian is the Halle shifter Dr. He and Sheri recognize each other as mates but Sheri is terrified for him because of said ex. This story has more plot beyond just the romance and it works well.
I recommend this book to fans of shifters and erotic romance.
Full disclosure: I met this author, Dana Marie Bell, at AAD 2011 and she told me about a bunch of her books. She recommended I start with this one.
For those who enjoy shifter romance books and short stories, this is a great one. I enjoyed the different personalities of the characters and the interplay between the three stories in the book. Her descriptions of people and places made me really able to "see" it without bogging down the story.
I'll definitely be picking up the next book in the series. And of course, I can't wait to read the story about the bear named Bunny :)
The Wallflower-- Sweet Dreams-- Cat of a Different Color Three stories in one. I've been putting off reading this series since I'm reading through several already. So I was pleasantly surprised to find this at #ACPL: new pretty book, Dana bell, and peanut M&M's. I couldn't resist. It is a good way to spend a little time in a cozy corner. #ILoveNewBooks
I loved reading this. I loved that it was all about the characters, there was no need to impress the reader by going overboard or into too much detail. It had its sweet moments and it had the girl catfight moments :P I would definitely recommend this to those that have a love of shifters.
The Wallflower, Sweet Dreams, and Cat of a Different Color: three stories introduce the alpa, beta, and Marshall of the Halle Pride. The interlocking stories of the couples are arranged so you see how they work together and keep the story moving. Ready for #4 Steel Beauty.
