Adeline Cooper swore to never step foot in the small town of Pascagoula, Mississippi after a drug bust went bad and her cousin was killed on the job. Adeline's Uncle has blamed her for his son's death and because of his power in the town his threats to harm her force her to leave and never come back. Ten years later Adeline finds herself back in Pascagoula when a case of a missing woman leads her there. Now she must work with her former boyfriend now Sherriff Wyatt Henderson to solve the case.

Let me preface this review by saying that in the past I have really enjoyed Debra Webb's novels. This time though, Anywhere She Runs doesn't measure up. While there were aspects to the book that I enjoyed, the negative outweighed the good.

I'll start with the positive. The mystery surrounding the missing woman was done quite nicely. The clues are slowly revealed and the connection to Adeline was very intriguing. The mystery will easily grasp the reader. Where the book falters for me has to do with the characters themselves most especially Adeline. She is so angry and defensive most of the book it is hard to completely connect to her. Some of this is due to the fact that the author continues to hammer into the reader’s head, just how angry Adeline is about her past circumstances. There are a lot of mental diatribes that just slow the pacing of the story down.

Wyatt is okay, but he doesn't really go after Adeline and spent those ten years pining after her. I don't know. He was too passive for my tastes. Plus after all of the baggage between Adeline and Wyatt, things are wrapped up much to quickly. I don't even think a whole chapter is devoted to the major conflict resolution.

I can't really recommend this book. There are better out there. If you want to try Debra Webb I suggest Nameless instead.

Engaging crime investigation with a hint of a second chance romance between the H/h. Lots of twists and turns in the story. Not many detailed steamy scenes and most are fade to black anyway. I really didn't feel any true connection/attraction re the romance, so forget about that and read this for the back story. This book has been reissued and renamed as 'Lies' and is in the duet - 'Secrets and Lies'.

This book really was the most perfect mix of mystery and romance. Adeline, the main character, is an amazing detective and strong female lead. Nothing gets past her. One of my favorite aspects of the book was how Adeline was reunited with the man who was “the one that got away”. I also loved that this case was personal for Adeline because it gave her some closure on family matters and helped to release some of the guilt she was holding for things that had happened far in her past.

Another solid mystery by Webb, with just enough romance mixed in. There's a reason I've always come back to her books over the years. My only complaint: she's WAY too prolific of a writer, and I have a hard time keeping up ;)

Enjoyable until the end when it got a little long winded for me. The big reveal was too unbelievable to be really worthwhile so... Overall I'm left feeling underwhelmed.

Adeline Cooper's got a day off work, a hot and willing body warming the bed sheets and sex on the agenda until her plans are rudely interrupted by the Fed-Ex delivery man...and no he's not delivering a book. But he does have a package for Adeline with a newspaper clipping of a missing district attorney, a candid Polaroid of the same missing woman and a cryptic note enclosed about "One dead Princess, two more to go". It's not what this Huntsville Alabama Police Detective needs or wants 2 days before Christmas. Even more annoying and stranger yet is that it's the second letter she's received in the last couple of days referencing Princesses. Someone is obviously trying to tell her something and in this book one thing is for sure...you definitely don't want to be a Princess. It has deadly consequences.

That's the opening hook in Anywhere She Runs and it's just the beginning.

Adeline Cooper is a hard as nails, straight shooting, no nonsense cop who can (or should) never go home to Pascagoula, Mississippi if she values her live. Nine years prior she left her hometown...well technically she was run of out town by her powerful Uncle Cyrus Cooper who threatened to kill her if she didn't leave after a case she was working as a brand new cop ended in results that royally pissed her Uncle off. Nice! With family like this who needs enemies? Well as it turns out - Adeline has a least one more enemy and he's determined to draw her into his twisted plot and to figure out her connection to the case, she's going to have to head home.

Waiting to assist Adeline in the investigation is non other than the love of her life, ex-lover and current Sheriff, Wyatt Henderson. When Adeline was run out of town nearly a decade earlier, Wyatt was just a green cop like herself and she is stunned to find out that the man she loved, but never forgave for what she perceived as betraying her is now the Sheriff. When another woman goes missing and another cryptic letter is delivered, Wyatt and Adeline must put aside their differences and race against the clock and to solve the puzzle before Adeline becomes the 3rd and final victim of a crazed mad man.

Anywhere She Runs is chock full of suspense, intrigue and questions - many many questions requiring answers that will keep you turning the pages. Like what exactly happened that caused Uncle Cyrus to threaten Adeline with her own death if she didn't leave town? What caused the riff between Wyatt and Adeline? What secrets is Irene Cooper (Adeline's mom) hiding from her daughter and what does she know about the missing women? Who wants to kill all the Princesses?

If you are like me, then you have to keep reading to get those answers, you have no choice. Anywhere She Runs was a great mystery with twists and turns and a clever plot that kept me engaged until the resounding end.

This was a pretty good book with many plor twists that kept you reading and scaring the hell out of me half the time. But I gotta hand it to Debra Webb, this would've been easily forgotten if it hadn't been for the ending. So many authors ruin great suspense novels by ending things abruptly or with something really sappy and totally unlike the rest of the book.
Webb didn't do that. In fact, she kept the suspense going and made you wonder what would happen in the future.
Personally,

A strong 4 stars...My first book by Webb but I will read her again. Liked the characters, tension, and action throughout. This book was right up my alley with the hot couple and the twisted serial killer. There were plot twists that I didn't see coming. I actually thought I had things figured out towards the beginning but ended up being surprised. Although the plot was tight and well woven, there were some character motivations that didn't make sense to me...stopped it from being 5 stars. Very enjoyable read!

It took me almost a week to read this book (usually it takes 2 days tops to read a book this size). It was boring in the beginning, and rest of the book was rather lame and obvious. There weren't many surprises and I figured out most of it very early. Only thing I didn't guess was which deputy helped the cousin.
I didn't care much for the lead characters, specially Addy, she was really annoying.

Excellent plot with a great twist on what could have easily become a played out story. I definitely appreciated the creativity as well as the various twists and turns in the plot as new clues are revealed. A good read although the relationship aspect of the story felt a little weak to me.
