I really liked this book. It was a well written, suspenseful, mind teaser with interesting protagonists and plot twists that held my interest. As steeped in modern cyber-crime and advanced technology as it was, it still managed to layer a little paranormal into the fiber optics of the story line.

Well done, Ms. Week. Well done.

When I first began reading Nancy Weeks' IN THE SHADOW OF GREED, I was immediately engaged by her main character, Dr. Sarah Tu. Attentive to the point of being obsessed with her top-secret work on a cybercrime, Sarah is so engrossed in her work, she misses the time to meet her ever-patient and forgiving sister, Hanna, to go on a vacation. That lapse allows a serial killer, who has been stalking Hanna, the opportunity to torture and kill Hanna. When Sarah arrives at blood bath, her world is crushed. Driven by guilt and remorse, Sarah spends every available moment at her comatose sister's side at a rehabilitation facility. Much to her chagrin, so does Jason McNeil, a hard-bodied slab of a cop who had been trailing the serial killer.

Jason is consumed with rage over the loss of yet another woman to this monster. Hanna should have never been left to his cruel devices. Jason feels he should have arrested this animal months before. Now he visits Hanna on a regular basis and runs into the very attractive, intensely private Sarah Tu almost every time he visits. The attraction between Jason and Sarah crackles off the page, however, Sarah's ability to shut down her emotions pushes him away at every turn. At last, he decides to leave the area for a geographic cure for his heartache and guilt. However, as the saying goes, "Wherever I go, I take myself" is true for Jason, too. He could no more forget Sarah than she can forget him. Fate and the forces of evil conspire to bring them back with a bang.

No spoilers coming from me! I very much enjoyed this story and learned a lot about cybercrime without feeling as if I was being lectured. Nancy Weeks did her research and it showed. I was delighted when it went off the pure police procedural/cyber forensics track to a paranormal romantic suspense story firmly anchored in solid police work and computer sciences. This book took me for a fun filled ride with enough twists and turns to keep me flipping through my Kindle late at night. I highly recommend this book and give it 5 stars.

What a wild ride! IN THE SHADOW OF GREED is a smart, sexy and intriguing romantic suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat to the very end.

The heroine, Dr. Sarah Tu, is a gifted cryptologist (think numbers) who spends her days studying coded language, cracking secret codes and protecting information. While frantically working to block a national security threat, her sister, Hannah, is brutally mauled by a serial killer. Sarah's world crashes all around her as a beaten Hannah is in a coma.

FBI Agent Jason McNeil is driven to catch the culprit. He discovers he has a connection to the coma patient that he can't quite understand. Somehow Hannah's in his head, and she's telling him to protect Sarah.

In no time, Jason develops strong feelings for Sarah, but she's too broken to act on any feelings she has for him.

Then Chapter Three comes - Wow! I won't give it away but what happens surprised me and really is what got me invested in this book. I needed to know how on earth Sarah and Jason would reach their happy ending.

And what a great suspenseful ride to that happy ending it was. As both Sarah and Jason attempt to move on with their lives in separate cities, they soon are thrust back together as an attempt is made on both of their lives on the same day. The serial killer had already been caught - so who would want both of them dead?

On the run, it's only a matter of time before they give in to their strong feelings for one another. Their love developing in the mist of danger was heightened. I was on pins and needles because I knew something bad could happen any minute.

Nancy also weaves in some really cool scenes involving Sarah's work as a cryptologist including Sarah reconstructing an attempt at their lives using number equations. I found it quite fascinating.

If you're looking for a romantic suspense that is smart, and full of intrigue, this is the one. It's easily one of my favorites this year.

This book has my favorite kind of storyline in it due to being a computer geek and former information systems technician in the Navy, where I worked for a few years in the Network Security field. Now I am pursuing a degree in the field currently. =)
The minute I read the synopsis of the book I knew I had to read it.
This book not only brings you romantic suspense but a look into what the most significant threat is to today's world cybercrime. People tend to forget how dangerous their computer is and what it could do and what people can actually make it do. This book makes people wake up about the concerns on what people out there can do to steal your identity and your information without you even knowing it.
I will not go into detail on the story because I feel I will give too much away. Instead, I will go over everything I liked about this book.
I give this book 5 full moons and highly recommend it to romantic suspense fans out there. You will enjoy every minute of this cyber crime thriller by Nancy C. Weeks.

What a superb plot. And an extraordinaire heroine in a field I haven't read yet, computers and math--I think my kids former science/math teacher would be geeking out right now. With a splash of the supernatural. All combinations for a great romantic suspense techno thriller.

Dr. Sarah Tu and Detective/Agent Jason McNeil have been targeted by a ruthless thug. And they have no idea why. On the run, they try to piece together the mystery while trying to keep themselves alive. Along the way the get a little help from Sarah's sister. A showdown in the end loaded with all the action I just love.

The McNeil family dragged me, I love big families. And Sarah's toughness that masks the real woman inside is endearing, she's my kind of heroine. Weeks did a fabulous job in her research in writing this book and it shone through. And I'm happy to hear Weeks has a second book with one of the McNeil brothers coming.

If everything I described above trips your trigger, then I suggest reading this book. You won't be disappointed.

I was given an ARC in exchange for a fair review.

Really enjoyed this book. Nancy Weeks succeeds in keeping the suspense high and the tension tight as mathematician Dr. Sarah Tu seeks to use all her skills to identify and stop a dangerous new Internet bot that would compromise national security.

While Sarah is working, someone attacks her beautiful younger sister, Hanna, leaving her seriously injured and in a deep coma. As Sarah feels responsible for Hanna, guilt renders her unable to respond to the attraction that flares between her and handsome FBI Special Agent, Jason McNeil, who thinks he’s going nuts when Hanna begins talking to him inside his head.

When bombs explode simultaneously, one near Sarah and one near Jason, the two come together and risk their lives to stop a dangerous international terrorist who seeks to destroy them and everything they love.

Sarah and Jason engaged my interest from the very beginning and kept me rooting for these two strong-willed, tender-hearted people as they worked through their backgrounds fought for their love. Prepare to stay up late with this one.

IN THE SHADOW OF GREED, the debut romantic suspense novel by author Nancy C. Weeks, is an edge-of-your-seat cyber thriller neatly intertwined with a sizzling hot romance between the hero and heroine of the story. There’s even a dash of sixth sense communication thrown into the mix, which ends up playing quiet an important role in the lives of the characters, even if its occurrence is never really fully explained or contemplated. Ms. Weeks had produced an exciting, face-paced read that will have you turning pages well after you should have called it a day. You simply must find out what happens next and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for future books in the series to explore the tantalizingly hot McNeil clan. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and found the techno-speak easy to understand and unobtrusive, even for a cyber-idiot like me. If you’re looking for a fantastic romantic suspense full of Internet espionage twists and turns, IN THE SHADOW OF GREED, is the book for you!

Nancy's debut novel is a well-written suspense that embodies family relationships, sorrow, fear and love. Dr. Sarah Tu is a strong and smart heroine and her relationship with her sister Hannah is compelling and heart warming. Sarah's love interest, Jason, is a tortured hero who doesn't want to fall in love, but can't help it.

The cyber crime story line, along with a serial killer on the loose, make for some very tense moments in this book that will keep the reader guessing what will happen next.

An awesome, fast-paced read from an author who is on the rise.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading In the Shadow of Greed. The story kept me hooked from the first chapter, awaking emotions - in particular excitement, fear, followed by an the overwhelming love expressed from one sister to the other. Suspense kept me turning pages while the underlying romance between the heroine and the detective kept me intrigued with the thrills and uncertainties of new love. I felt so close to the characters that the end made me curious about the rest. I highly recommend In the Shadow of Greed as a fast-paced and very interesting read.

The author did something here I haven’t come across before in a series. There are two books, In the Shadow of Greed (which was releases first) and In the Shadow of Evil. The two books intertwine so closely in certain aspects that the answer to a more descriptive who, what and why of a serial killer that starts out in Greed is explained in Evil.

The timeline of Greed is March 2013 to roughly the end of November. Greed starts out with the brutal attack of a woman. This woman is Sarah Tu’s sister. Sarah is a cryptologist who works for a company that both creates and test secret codes for programs including for Department of Defense. She gets so wrapped up in her work she always misses important things she promises to do with her sister. When her latest project keeps her from getting home to her sister for a planned girls weekend away her sister Hannah is brutally attacked by a serial killer and left for dead. Hannah is left in a coma and Sarah cannot forgive herself for not being there for her sister. FBI Special Agent Jason McNeil is the one that ends up at the hospital while is brother Jared and Noah go to the scene of the crime. Jason hears Hannah in his head telling him to take care of her sister and also points out the killer when he comes to the hospital to finish the job. Even though Hannah is in a coma he forms a bond with her. He is also very attracted to Sarah but she is wears her cold as ice persona like a shield and wont let him in. After the killer is found and killed (which does not happen in this book - it happens in Evil) Jason decides he cannot be around Sarah anymore and decides to take a job in Texas. But when attempts are made on both their lives they try to figure out what’s going on. You realize this has to do with her not supporting a program at work that could have terrorist’s type ties.

I did like all the characters in the book. The McNeil family is quite large and all the men are in some form of law enforcement and work closely together. The romance between Sarah and Jason was very beautifully done. But for me I couldn’t get over the Hannah/serial killer part of the story that was such a huge part of the beginning of this book being basically brushed over (the conclusion to the killer part) and not explained until Evil. Even if I had not known about a second book coming in the series this would have bothered me. After reading both books I see that the author likes to combine two huge suspense/mystery plots at the same time for the hero and heroine. This worked a little better in the second book because we got a full conclusion to both stories. Yes there was a beautiful conclusion to Sarah and Jason saying goodbye to Hannah at the end of Greed but you still didn’t know the real reason Hannah was targeted until Evil.

In the Shadow of Greed was one of those rare books that swept me up from the get-go. Weeks wove an absolutely fantastic tale of greed, intrigue and really steamy love. Dr. Sarah is so awkward and inside of her own head that you cannot help but love her. Jason is the perfect antidote to her buttoned up nature, with his oh-so-hot cop mentality. Of course, the rest of McNeils and the strong bond Jason has with his family make you love him just that much more.

I'm struggling to write this review, not because the book was difficult to review but because I ABSOLUTELY adored it and I just want to gush, but I do not want to give too much away. I'm having a total fan-girl moment over here.

Hannah's character just added this element of complete emotional connection to the book. I cried over some of her scenes. Perhaps that is what makes In the Shadow of Greed so successful. Weeks has an amazing ability to pull emotional responses from her readers. I laughed, I cried, I gasped in suspense.

I am a huge fan of cop dramas, but even on my favorite shows, I can usually figure out the plot. In the Shadow of Greed kept me guessing and the steamy romance between Jason and Sarah kept me distracted in the most delicioius way. This book is a MUST READ for anyone who loves a good romance or a good mystery. It's beautifully written.

4.5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed Nancy C. Weeks's debut novel, IN THE SHADOW OF GREED, because it has an original plot involving a unique heroine, Sarah Tu, an Asian-American woman scientist, mathematician, and computer guru, who works for a cyber-security company called NORAN. Although the plot falls squarely into the romantic suspense genre, it has a tantalizing paranormal element as well, because of psychic messages sent to Sarah and the hero, FBI agent Jason McNeil, via Sarah's sister, Hanna. I was so interested in this I wish there had been more as to the why and how of these tantalizing psychic connections. That being said, this is a wonderful read and a page-turner, and I truly appreciated Ms. Weeks's excellent research about computers, mathematics, cyber-terrorism, and police/FBI procedures. I've heard there is a sequel in the works, and I look forward to reading about the further adventures of Sarah and Jason, and the rest of the McNeil clan.

In the Shadow of Greed Book is the first book in the Shadows and Light series and is a real page-turner.

The author has given us an intriguing romantic suspense story. The characters are realistic, intelligent, and have great chemistry together. The story is well crafted and engaged my interest from start to finish with a serial killer, violence, murder, mystery, suspense, danger, and romance. I cannot wait for the next book in this exciting series.

In the Shadow of Greed by Nancy C. Weeks is a well written story that will captivate you and keep you reading well into the night. Dr. Sarah Tu is a brilliant mathematician who becomes absorbed in her work projects to the point of neglecting her family, mostly her sister Hannah. After arriving late to meet her sister, Sarah finds that Hannah has been attached by a madman and is in a coma. Jason McNeil is investigating the attack. Jason finds himself in a strange situation because Hannah is communicating with him telepathically. This communication helps to form a bond with Sarah who is immersed in a project to disable a computer botnet. Danger, suspense, drama and romance all happen in this story that will have you wondering how much is possible when you are on the Internet!

I received an advance reader copy of this book and I always review every book that I read. I highly recommend this book. It will keep you reading to the very last page. Enjoy.

I feel like I read a different book than the other reviewers. The story was not cohesive, there are way too many unanswered questions and I don’t believe the book was edited, at all. One of my biggest complaints is that the whole book is missing chapters- a “chapter” ends and there’s two blank pages before the “new chapter” starts with no acknowledgment, EXCEPT for chapter 30 that is marked as chapter 30 and indented. The story was jumbled and I’m highly confused how the main character’s sister’s murder goes from being a huge storyline in the first part of the book, to not even being a part of the resolution. It left more questions than answers. The story itself was a stereotypical romantic suspense story. As for other reviews, there’s no graphic sex in this. It’s implied but never discussed. Other reviews state that questions will be answered in the second book, but even reading the blurb about that book already has me frustrated.

Not Bad

This was my first Nancy C. Weeks book, and to my knowledge, my first "non-steamy" romantic suspense. I liked it.

There were some things Jason did had me asking my Kindle,"But why though?!?" Then there were some things that happened that kinda didn't make sense (like Jason having his gun one second, but fighting without it the next)...but maybe I missed something?

I feel like we didn't get the full story on Hanna and her "connection" to Jason. (How did she do it? Did it stop? If so, why?)

I think it's odd that this the first book in the series. Jenn and Jared are already married in this book, but book 2 tells their story.

I had a few small issues with this book...Let's see how the next one goes.

almost a 4

I was enjoying this story until the whole family turned up at the cabin. That was totally ridiculous, they were supposed to be hiding out from killers yet they thought it was okay for everyone to show up, including 2 kids?! That was so far fetched and unbelievable, as was the fact that no one checked the camera feed, especially after she said she thought she saw movement…. What kind of agents would allow any of that, don’t know what the author was thinking or even the editors for that matter.

Get ready for an edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting suspenseful read! So much action and suspense! I could not put this book down. A story with a feel good ending.

This story drew me in so that it was hard to put down and I would read much longer than I planned. The only problem I had was that the editor needed more proofreaders. The misspellings were very disrupting. Other than that, I enjoyed reading this book.

Sarah Tu, PhD and her best friend, her sister Hannah, were supposed to have a getaway together with friends. Sarah was working late and Hannah stayed home, waiting for Sarah to arrive. Instead, a man entered the house to rape and torture Hannah. Hannah spent the rest of her life in a facility. Sarah was followed one night while on her way to visit Hannah, and almost run off the road. Shortly thereafter, Sarah and Jason, the detective working on Hannah's case, were both targets of bombings in their offices. This drew them together and they found that they were also romantically interested in each other.

Sarah is brilliant and working on top secret projects. Was she targeted because of her work? Who was behind the bombings? What did they want?

We find a diabolical genius who is pure evil. Also, guiding both Sarah and Jason, was Hannah, providing instructions postmortem.

There was a lot of action in this book. Also integral to the story is an abundance of suspense, intrigue and unbelievable acts of courage. While this a romance is part of the book, I think the reader who prefers more action, as opposed to romance would enjoy this book more.

After reading In The Shadow of Evil, I was eager to read In the Shadow of Greed as such when the opportunity came for me to read and review it I never hesitated. On completion the only thing I could say was WOW! What a ride. This book was worth every moment of reading. It’s very difficult for me to say of the two which was my favorite, as they were both good in their own way.

I was hooked from the very first paragraph. The story- line was very entertaining. My only peeve is that I felt that the matter of the serial killer could have been better developed. It may have not been the main focus of the story but it was what led to the main characters ( Dr. Sarah Tu and police detective Jason McNeil) coming into contact with each other. My main disappointment came from the fact that it was also touched on in the previous book and I was hoping that this title would have shed more light on it.

In The Shadow of Greed is classified as a romantic suspense and rightly so. It held the right mixture of romance, suspense and mystery to hold my interest. I was literally on edge of my seat and I could not wait to find out what was going to happen next. While reading, the television series, Numbers came to mind.

The characters were likable and engaging and it was easy to understand what they were experiencing. It was not easy to figure out who the villain was. Just when you might believe that you have it figured out another twist is introduced that leaves you wondering what the heck is happening here. The romance between Sarah and Jason took some time to develop. Sarah was feeling guilty about her sister’s murder and felt that she did not deserve any happiness and so even though found herself quite attracted to Jason she tried to avoid getting involve with him. As the saying goes ‘The path to true love is never easy’. These two were a testament to that saying. There were times that Sarah made me want to scream. For someone so brilliant she could be really clueless.

Ms. Weeks writing style was quite descriptive which makes the reader feel as if they are actually apart of the story.

If you love suspense with romance in the mix, then this book would be right up your street. So go and get a copy ASAP. It will be worth it.

An interesting read. Surprising twists and turns. A good mystery. The romance? One of the interesting turns. A most unusual 'meet-cute." Worth the read.

Found book two on KU, and wondered why I hadn't continued on with this series when I realized I own the book one. Maybe I hadn't read it? So, I decided to read this, it appears, again. As I read it, I was baffled. It was obvious to me that there were things that have already happened that it seemed I was expected to know. Like Jennie and Jared's story. Maybe even Emma's story. Events were mentioned that I knew nothing about were referenced. Why was Jason so sure things were about him? Anyway, it left me thinking I was rather generous with the above review and rating. It should have had only three stars. (I finished it, and in spite of all the questions, it was an okay read.) Now that I have perused book two, it appears that the books may be out of order?
