"Machine Tool Reconditioning, and applications of hand scraping" The purpose of this book is to supply a deficiency of long standing to the metal trades for a comprehensive explanation of the hand scraping art and its principle application, the reconditioning of machine tools.
The depth and detail of the information in this book, Machine Tool Reconditioning is truly something else. Very good and interesting. I haven't had a chance to read the entire book but so far the section on scraping is very thorough, not only on how to scrape but also how to sharpen the scraper and even how to take care of the honing stone. There are some nice sections that contain curious info you won't find in other books, like how to make master parallels from scratch.
Some might regard this material expensive; I'd question dedication to the most important part of society, that which creates modern society; even with the faults. As such, the cost is immaterial, priceless. It might take two dozen manufacturers repair manuals to blanket same subject in equal depth. In my experience, perhaps four worldwide actually practiced machine alignment at this level.
comprehensive review and tutorial, in overwhelming detail, of the process of hand-scraping, the organization required for a systemic reconditioning of a piece of equipment, and concerns of geometry for such a process.
