In a world strictly divided by social class, I’d grown accustomed to my position. It was luck that took me from a poor farm boy to a servant in the castle, tending one of the Lord’s many Omegas. Trust me, there are far worse positions than serving a lady in the harem. As quickly as I came to this position, though, it was taken. One moment of getting a little too close to the omega I served was enough to land me a prisoner in the dungeons with the others the Lord took favor from. Kept in cages, tortured or worse for the Lord’s pleasure, we’re seen as little more than animals. But I’ve had enough. I refuse to spend the rest of my life in this filth, doomed to the hands of a Lord not worthy of his station. My escape isn’t going to end in me running to hide. No…I’m taking my place among the alphas, and the little omega that landed me in this dungeon—she’s going to be mine too.
GERO IS A NON SHIFTER, DARK OMEGAVERSE, EPIC FANTASY. Previously seen in the Used & Bound Anthology
Courtesy warning: This book may contain themes that may be disturbing to some readers.
I'm a reader, first and foremost. Just like everyone else.
I love books that are just out there. From fluffy to pitch-black darkness. Monsters and aliens to the men who haunt your dreams painting the walls in red.
My love for reading and writing reviews has led me down the road of becoming a writer myself, thanks to the encouragement of others!
I'm not sure where this journey will lead me, but I hope I can breathe life into words the way so many others have done for me when I needed an escape.
Idalia is the Kings omega. One of many. The alpha King keeps prisoners below the castle, and when they escape, they become pure savages, murdering the King himself, and all of his loyal followers and takes over. Gero is the new King. That also means taking over the Omega‘s.
This is a very dark omegaverse story. It has breeding, knotting, slick, nesting, and just pure yummy darkness. It’s MMF. A throuple between two betas (who seem to be changing into Alphas) and one mouthy omega. The plot gets really interesting when she decides to run away in fear that the new leader is going to kill her. An omega running away into the forest of the unknown obviously doesn’t get very far till she runs into trouble. It does leave off on a cliffhanger, and , I cannot wait to read the rest. It was so freaking good!
This is a new to me author, and I will definitely be following from now on!
I think because this was a novella, the plot moved too fast for me. I was struggling a bit to keep up and understand what was going on because this was action-packed (which I loved).
This novella kinda flips normal expectations you have of dark romance on its head. There’s very little (if any) romance, the characters aren’t morally gray, they are pitch black and they aren’t written to be liked. And yet, you still end up invested in the story- their story.
I’m curious too see how Bernhard will go. I’m glad there’s a little break in between these tho 😮💨😂 Intense af.
This was probably one of the darkest omegaverse stories that I have ever read and I love every deliciously violent, bloody and terrifyingly gory moment of it.
It was intense right from the start, primal, graphic, action packed, suspenseful and damn right sexy! We are taken on one hell of a twisted rollercoaster ride that is filled with unbelievably explicit and provocative interactions between all characters. There was never a dull moment, only filthy rawness that I can’t describe.
Gero is a deranged, unhinged, fierce and domineering man. He had me squirming like crazy over his filthy dirty talk. And the way he dominates was freaking HOT!
The smut in this story is more primal and animalistic than sweet and sexy. So be ready for it. You may realize you have some new kinks after reading what Gero can do!
Gero has many demons in his closet but nothing seems to deter him when he sets out to do something. But little does he know a bratty omega is going to change him in more ways then he realizes.
I could not get enough of this story! It was extremely smutty with a pitch black twistedness that will turn some people a little green! But not me! The story ends on a cliffhanger which has left me excited for the next book!
You will need to leave your morals at the door and get ready for one crazy wild ride.
A super dark Omegaverse?!? Yes please!! This story hooked me from the beginning. I read it all in one sitting and couldn't put it down. It's very fast paced and ends in a cliffhanger but has a ton of spice! I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Doing this without spoilers really limits my options. Ok this is fast paced, it is pretty dark, it is exactly the way I assumed a dark OV book would go. Please read the trigger warnings the non-con is not a one time incident. As of right now there isn’t any thing that indicates this is at least a duology if not a series so this is me informing you, watch out for that cliff it’s a doozy. There are quite a few questions that at the moment seem like plot holes but we shall see. While some of the questions where vaguely answered not all of mine were. As far as the writing, I still don’t have a good feel for the author’s writing style but in this book is was fine. As in, it’s clean and flows well. Sometimes the dialogue gets a bit jumbled but not terribly so. I didn’t love it because I didn’t get enough closer between the characters and something happened that I just can’t understand the reasoning behind. I think I’m some ways it was implied but I would have loved the clarity. YD La Mar is an incredibly intriguing author so I’ll definitely be back for more.
Okay this story is one you seriously need to focus on the trigger warnings because this is very dark and the triggers start very early on. So make sure you read the trigger warnings and you are okay with those things. The main female character did annoy me at times with her selfishness but she is a survivor and does keep pushing. I hope she grows a lot in the following stories because I want to see her grow and become a better person. There’s a great amount of action which kept me entertained from the start and I stayed engaged with the story. I’m very hopeful to see what’ll happen next in the story.
We are thrown into the dark and deep end with Gero, by author Y.D. La Mar straight from the start. This was the first book I have ever read from this author and wow it started with a bang. Idalia is an omega in the Alpha King's harem. Used for his pleasure, but always in competition with the other omegas. After the prisoners under the castle escape and take over though, she may not be one of many anymore.
This is a very dark omegaverse tale, and really enjoyable. The book is an MMF pairing of two beta males and a sassy omega. Even when things seem okay between the three of them, Idalia still isn't settled.
The book leaves us on a bit of a cliffhanger, and I'm looking forward to the next one!
Page ONE! That is how you start a book and let readers know this is not for you. Whereas it is for me! YD La Mar wastes no time in setting the feel of this book and I’m all in. This is pitch black dark. It is not grey dark. And page one let’s you know what you’re in for. And it is decadently delicious.
When I started reading Gero I was surprised. I was expecting dark, but this book turned out darker than I originally thought. I’ve read hundreds of omegaverse books/graphic novels/manga. I’m not new to the genre by any means and I’ve read plenty of books with noncon. However there is something about Gero that felt new to me, and darker. I still can’t put my finger on what it is but I loved it! So in case you’re going in expecting smut, you may be surprised as well. Hopefully pleasantly surprised. Now, I love ducked up dark, but if you don’t, this book may not be for you. YD La Mar’s storytelling is absolutely delightful. If she wrote a dictionary, I’d read every word.
Idalia, the name of the beautiful omega that got me imprisoned. All for getting a taste of her. The beginning to my torment. But this did not break me, it only made the need within me to overthrow the Alphas stronger. I’ll do it. And when I do, I’ll take her with me to stand by my side.
I’d recommend Gero to the readers in that tiny corner of dark romance most can’t stomach. The book starts out with noncon as punishment, physical beatings and forced submission with humiliation. And then he liked it. So if that’s not agreeable with you, you may want to skip Gero. It only continues with more non con and gore, followed by crazy smut and plot. This is one where you’ll want to read the Trigger Warnings. Gero is definitely not for everyone. This is not romantic smut, this is more carnal. Know your limits. Warnings aside, I loved Gero! I’m a sucker for the pitch black dark and deranged. Gero was one ride I did not want to get off of and I’m so glad there will be a book 2. If you like the darker side of romance, the possessive, the questionable, the feral and the deviant this one’s for you.
Warning: Reading this book may make you want to be an omega. May make you want to start a coup just because. May make you want to start building your army. May make you want to have a servant to get you late night snacks. May make you realize Dunstan took the words right out of your mouth. May make you have a new kink. May make you better at sharing but only with your best friend. May make you want to be in a triad. May make you think you need therapy. May make you keep reading because this is your therapy. Twofer. May make you read all of YD La Mar’s books because this was AMAZING. Read responsibly.
*I received an Advance Reader Copy for free and I’m leaving an honest review of my own volition. All thoughts are my own.*
If you read the Used & Bound Anthology then Gero by YS La Mar should be something you’re well aquatinted with and already absolutely in love with! And if not, then you’re in for a treat—especially if you’re a fan of dark Omegaverse romances. Yep you read that right, so be sure to check your triggers before diving in because this isn’t your typical sweet and loving Omegaverse!
In a world divided by social class, where Alphas rule the world, one Beta is determined to change that—after he gets what’s owed to him that is. Starting with revenge on the Omega that wronged him. Because after once being at the top, and having the favor of those in charge, our MC Gero soon finds himself tossed into the dungeon with only one goal—escape and seek revenge on the alphas and omega that put him there. And man what a deliciously dark tale this one becomes!
And while the FMC may not be one you instantly love, with her selfish headstrong careless ways, she does grow on you! I can’t wait to see what comes next for Gero, Bernhard and Idalia as they try to make everything work.
YD has a knack for creating stories that suck you right in and this one was no exception! If you’re a fan of fast paced dark stories with lots of hot & steamy smutty scenes and don’t mind a tantalizing cliffhanger then this is the one for you! I can’t wait for more of this story and this world!
Y.D. La Mar did not hold back on us. I was caught off guard by the beginning because I was expecting it to take a couple chapters before depicting the type of scene she starts with.
It was a different take on an omegaverse, and it was FASCINATING! I was instantly rooting for Gero. Knowing he has been through so much punishment for such a small indiscretion against the Alpha made me angry for him. I have a love hate relationship with Idalia. I love how strong she is and how territorial, but I'm not a fan of how clingy she is. I do hope to see some character growth in the next book for her. I am looking forward to learning more about Bernhard. I really enjoyed the chapters that are from his POV.
There is a lot to unpack with this story. It starts with a scene of punishment that gives us insight into what kind of leader the current Alpha is. The smut scenes are more animalistic then you will find in other omegaverses. If you are looking for a cinnamon rolls and romance, this book is not it.
Please make sure to read the trigger warnings before you start as some content might be hard to stomach for some. If you make it past the first chapters, welcome to the dark side and buckle up for this wild ride. I am looking forward to the next book as this one does leave off with a cliffhanger.
“Gero" is definitely one of the darker omegaverses I've ever read, but I admit I was intrigued by the entire thing. While I usually prefer my books with a lot of plot and a little bit of spice, I was still intrigued with the plot of this story. And that's quite mindblowing, knowing that about 60% of this book is spice. And still: the author managed to write the spice in such a way it actually added something to the storyline and the plot development. It's like character and world building through smut; I really can't explain how she did it but it truly works.
Gero is one of those books that completely dives into the story from the start, and where it takes time to learn more about the world, the characters and how everything fits together. I like all the mystery within this story, the tiny puzzle pieces we get while reading, knowing that we will need several more of them before we can really start to fit everything together.
So yeah: I'm intrigued by the story, and looking forward to see what will happen next and how it will all fit together. I have a harder time liking the characters to far, but for some reason I don't care that much about it at the moment. I just want to see more from this world and all its brutality.
You can take the man out of the prison, but you can’t take the prisoner out of the man. -Bernard

Gero is the first book in this new Omegaverse series and if you love dark, twisted, steamy, with an actual storyline that will keep you page-turning then this is the book to read! Right from the beginning you get dropped into the dark element of this storyline. Picture dungeon, prisoners, and here comes the steamy! As you read this book, prepare to need a fan, a shower, or a little something more. You get a great deal of drool-worthy steamy scenes. Let me say this - read the warnings at the beginning of this book! If it will have you feeling some kind of way (negatively), don't read it. Plain and simple. Because the author isn't kidding when they state the warning. I devoured this book regardless. This book is just plain downright delicious. You get Gero, Bernhard and another character who will have you jealous of her one second, and then wonder why she's so selfish the next. You'll see what I mean. She has little regard for anyone other than herself and it's going to land her in a heap of trouble. I honestly cannot wait for more from this author, and I'm already begging for book two. I need more! Definitely going to be rereading this book...a lot! LOL 5 out of 5 stars
This is my first read by YD La Mar and oh my goodness she does not disappoint. Wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when I read the blurb for this, but am I glad I picked it up. It said Dark omegaverse so I knew it was my kind of book.
Gero’s story literally draws you in and keeps you captive from page one all the way through. It even begins with a dark steamy dungeon scene so you know right off it’s gonna be an intense read. It’s also got action, suspense, mystery, twists and turns you don’t expect, and characters that keep you intrigued. I definitely need more into Gero and Bernard, Idalia I’m still trying to figure out if I like her. She’s a bit overly bratty and selfish, we’ll see how she acts in their next book. Their story is definitely a must read.
I do recommend being aware of TW, it is definitely dark, depraved but absolutely perfect. It does end on a seriously intense cliffy and will definitely leave you needy for the next book. Am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this new series. And will be looking into this authors other books too.
Okay so first things first DEFINITELY check your triggers with this book as it is not for the faint of heart. The beginning of the book is intense like holy smokes I was not expecting the intensity. That being said I really enjoyed the multiple povs as that always helps me flesh out the characters in my mind. Gero has been broken by his imprisonment in a dark dungeon where horrors have shaped his personality into something different. His relationship with Bernhard is complicated and this only fuels the uncertainty between him and Idalia at first. Throughout the book the three of them form a relationship that is full of spice and while they have their kind of tender moments the book is rife with action and intense scenes and deaths. If you find yourself enjoying darker books with darker themes this is book is for you. While it was a little more on the darker, more intense side than I usually read, I am actually looking forward to the second book which looks like it will focus more on Bernhard's POV.
YD La Mar’s most recent novel kept me mesmerized right from the start. Gero and his friend Bernhardt, are currently in the royal King’s prison under deplorable conditions. Gero was a former personal servant to Idalia, an Omega in one of the King’s harems. Idalia did something that sent Gero straight to the cells below. Gero has spent a few years stewing and planning on ways to get back at Idalia and the King. My emotions and thoughts about Idalia were all over the place. At first I thought she was a strong independent woman. Then she turned into a whiny, needy, clinging vine. Then she lost her mind and became stupid. This book was full of exciting adventure, mystery, suspense, steamy situations that were so riveting I couldn’t put it down until the very last page. YD La Mar is such an inventive author it just amazes me that every book, plot and scenario is each different. I’m really excited for her next book because, yes readers, it ends on a cliffy. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!
This is somehow my first trip down the omegaverse rabbit hole and I am not even slightly mad. YD La Mar doesn't hold back and I absolutely crave the blackest writing style.
Right from the start you're greeted with not grey, but pitch black writing and I was hooked. I really truly enjoy authors who write stories that not only push the reader's comfort level, but travel far beyond that. If the beginning doesn't settle with you, do not continue reading, but if you're part of the small group of readers who like them the blackest shade of black, give Gero a chance.
Gero is gritty, raw, carnal and filled with all things associated with war and captivity. You won't find aftercare and cuddly romantic spice here. Nothing but an endless appetite for the hate filled, deranged and primal f**ks. I ate each word up with the biggest spoon I could find.
Now, with all of that being said, please take the trigger warnings seriously and tread lightly. You've been thoroughly warned!
This book is a fantasy dark omegaverse. It ends on a cliffhanger and will have at least one more book in the series. It has some trigger warnings, so check them before you read this book!
Idalia is an omega in the harem of the alpha lord. She used to have a beta servant, Gero, but he was imprisoned 2 years ago. Meanwhile, in the dungeon, Gero has met Bernhard, another imprisoned beta with whom he has a relationship, and dreams of the day he will escape and claim Idalia for himself. Will he succeed? How will Idalia react to Gero and Bernhard?
I liked this book, but I was not expecting a cliffhanger, so I was a little thrown by that. Nevertheless, I found myself rooting for Gero and Bernhard, and even war.ing up to Idalia. I think I'll like them even more in a future book, once they have even more time to spend together... I recommend this book if you like fantasy and omegaverse.
Gero by YD La Mar is an erotic dark fantasy non-shifter omegaverse. La Mar does not hold back, she hits the gound running with details that provoke an unmistakable atmosphere that is dark, gritty, and filled with bloodlust. This story is phenomenal with characters that are dark and twisted from their place in society. My twisted little brain LOVES the image of these feral men that have been used and abused until they snap like rabid dogs. There is plenty of action in this story. This story is not for the faint of heart. If you are sensitve to things like $exual abuse, murder, gore, necropolis the list goes on and only gets better or worse…depending on your likes/dislikes. This is an erotic tale m with MM, MF, MMF, MFM, omega males with mpreg. There are plenty of dark spicy scenes. If you love dark fantasy erotica this is a must read. I give Gero 5 out of 5 stars.
This is a fast-paced story set in an original Omega-verse. Please pay close attention to the trigger warnings, because this story is dark and full of triggers – and you’ll run into some major ones right from the jump.
I enjoyed the story. I’m not sure how I feel about the MFC. I saw another reviewer refer to her as sort of a Scarlett O’Hara type – which is a very apt description. She’s a survivor, smart, and headstrong - but she’s also incredibly selfish and acts without thought or care of potential repercussions or the impact her actions will have on others. Although she annoyed me a fair amount, I also am intrigued to follow along with her journey to see her growth & development.
I’m also excited to see more of the ‘verse and learn more about Gero & Bernhard and how they ended up where they are.
Note that this is book 1, so it ends on a cliffhanger.
This is a new author for me. I didn’t know what to expect. Wow! YD La Mar writes a gritty, dark and dirty book. There are no apologies for her writing. If you have ANY triggers this is not the book for you. Gero’s station in life changes all of a sudden, he goes from the lowest, a prisoner to the highest as lord of the castle. Idalia is an omega whose circumstances also change with Gero. She is a strong female who knows what she wants and that gets her into trouble often. And of course, there is Bernhard... he’s my favorite character. You just have to love him. This book has it all – repressed people, horny alphas, greedy omegas and add a war. I couldn’t put the book down. I only recommend this book to hard core dark romance readers.
When YD said they were doing a dark omega verse I dropped everything to read it, and they did not hold back! This book makes you uncomfortable in all the best ways. YD has a way of taking all the things you love about both genres and mixing them perfectly. Gero is gritty, thrilling, action packed, spicy, and full of twists that you don't see coming. Idalia is not your average omega, her feisty conspiratorial attitude is refreshing as you see her interact with Gero & Bernhard. You’re dropped right into the midst of chaos with the first chapter and you will be engulfed in the twisted world our characters journey through. I’m excited to see what dark delicious deviousness this trio gets into in the next book Bernhard. Multiple POV - First Person
What a ride and it isn’t over yet!! This omega reminds me so much of Scarlett O’Hara - a selfish survivor who doesn’t really know what she wants except that she wants everyone answering to her. Ida is definitely something else and I can’t wait to see what’s really going on and if her guys are going to be there when she takes control of this situation she has gotten herself into. This book is dark and dirty, like Game of Thrones meets Gone with the Wind in the back alley of an omegaverse Witcher story - we have all the things that make a story such a beautiful train wreck you won’t be able to look away.
“We've all become animals, forced to live with our instincts as our humanity is slowly stripped away and …..” Gero a Beta in the dungeon feels he is changing, how is that possible in a world of Alphas, Omegas and Betas? Is he changing because of what he has endured in the dungeon? With his escape and setting himself up as the new king, along with the Omega Idalia and Bernhard another Beta like himself his “special” cellmate, will this triad succeed? What obstacles will they have to over come along with the feeling they are changing or are their actions causing the change? Read this book to find the answers for yourself.

If you like to break the rules and push the limits of what can be accepted and created in a book, this is definitely a great pick. And if you like the omegaverse establishment, then this dark and delicious piece is the cherry on top. Gero is a fast paced novella centered around a beta pushed to the very bottom, bidding his time until he is able to break out and regain power of his own, delivering revenge on the go; and a needy-greedy omega Idalia that landed him in the unfavorable situation in the first place. There is a lot of steam and violence, potentially triggering, but if you don't mind the triggers it is deliciously hot.
I knew going into this Omegaverse that it was going to be a dark read I just didn't realize how dark it was. Page one definitely kept my attention is it strange that I love and enjoy every bloody, violent, and terrifying moment of it. The author wanted to make sure reader knew from the get go if this was gonna be for you or not. FYI though the smut in this story is more primal and animalistic than sweet and sexy. So if that what your looking for you might consider reading something else. But who know you might realize you have some new kinks after reading this. Overall for a novella it's was great!! I'm super excited and definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
There is so much MM spice in Gero and honestly, I'm all for it. I became invested in Gero and Idalia so much that I forgot I was even reading. I was like a fly on the wall during takeover and looking over Gero's shoulder during those spicy scenes that made me horny and question my morals at the same time. I've realized that I'm basically a closet Idalia and would love to experience even half of what she gets. My only disappointment with the book was that it ended! If only books could go forever.
YD brings us an unusual but great DARK book! Make sure you read all the trigger warnings at the beginning!! The story of Gero, Idalia and Bernhard starts with Gero and Bernhard in the dungeon and goes from there on a wild ride of emotions and events. Well written with complex characters and plot twists that keep you guessing, you are taken on a journey of change and growth to a huge cliffhanger. I enjoyed reading this story and highly recommend it. Don't miss out on this book!!
This story is dark dark dark and don't expect to see any grey in there. It's fast paced....perhaps too fast paced for my liking, and it has lots of violence in there. Perhaps the fact that it was a novella is what threw me off and unfortunately i had to take lots of breaks through the book. It was an interesting story with intense characters that i would have liked to see more about and see them evolve more. Still i want to see what will happen to all of them and how this omegaverse MMF story is going to end.
