The best dog encyclopedia I have ever read! I keep rereading it to memorize the dog breeds.If you are getting your first dog, I highly recommend. Very good if you want to be more knowledgable about dogs.

GREAT Reference Guide.
Found this in the Bargain section at my local Barnes & Noble.

Very informative. It lists every breed there is and their temperaments. It also includes tips on training and caring for your dog; i.e.: The best time to trim your dog's nails is right after a bath because the nails are pliable.

I recommend this book for someone interested in getting a dog some time in the future. Even if you already are an owner, this book will still teach you some things you should know about your dog!


I'd say the only downside to this book is that it doesn't list crossbreeds/mutts - which i can totally understand. There are SO many possibilities, it would take up HUNDREDS of pages!


Definitely keeping this on my shelf for the rest of my years!

Bought this book to help A friend who’d never had a dog as a child try and pick the best breed for her. She loved it! The book has photos and details on every breed and describes the dog’s basic personality type and tendencies like which are high energy hunting digs snd which are loving lap dogs. She ended up getting a pug as a small companion that loves lap time more than hiking and was smart. Perfect dog for her. Lovely book with clear concise explanations of breeds and great photos.

I always refer back to this book. Such a detailed book on all things dogs. And when I say all things, I truly mean it. With this book, there's absolutely no reason to utilize the internet. It contains all of the answers!
