Determined to save his people from a debilitating mutation, Mal Ton abducts a gifted geneticist and brings her to his war-torn world. Andrea wakes up naked and in the arms of a handsome doctor who claims to be Mal Ton's captive as well. Roark charms and seduces her while Mal Ton overwhelms her senses, awakening needs she didn't realize she possessed.
Roark's smoldering intensity is even more intoxicating than Mal Ton's blatant sexuality. Slipping beneath her emotional defenses, Roark unleashes her passionate nature and makes her long for the soul-deep connection she gave up on long ago. She wants to believe they've found a bond more meaningful than lust, but how can she trust her captors? Now her sensuality is pitted against her intellect and the fate of two worlds hangs in the balance.

Seriously, I never would have read this without seeing positive reviews. That cover always made me snicker.
Genius smart heroine keeps getting drugged, kidnapped, lied to & manipulated...by EVERYONE. (Sigh) ...and she forgives everyone without making them suffer.
I am a lover of SciFi and I've just written an erotic romance myself, so finding this was like waking up on Christmas morning. When the story opened with Mal Ton or the sexy Commander Adoha, I got myself all geared up to see him in an HEA, of sorts. However, the writer had other ideas. The SciFi plot was intricate and well-written and the science supporting it sounded plausible to someone like myself who isn't a scientific type at all. Even the war-torn planets and their inhabitants were very interesting to me. In places, it was hard to keep up with what was going on. However, as I continued, I was eventually able to figure it all out. The echoes of BDSM used as a way to torture captives into cooperating during interrogation wasn't explored as fully as I might have liked. The intergalactic social mores were very intriguing, and the description of the mating practices of the Stilox was a clever device to explain the prevalance of the menege a trois as the dominant form of sexual expression. I was all geared up to see Andrea and Roark together with Mal Ton as a second for this reason, but that didn't happen. My disappointment in that development is probably why I couldn't award it any more than three stars. I liked this story a lot and if you like Erotic Romance with a SciFi flavor, you will not be disappointed.
As you can tell from the cover, this is definitely scifi erotica. While there are futuristic intrigue and aliens, there is much more sex than anything else. This book does have a plot underpinning all the sex, which includes a lot of manipulations and secrets. Overall it was an easy read, the names were different enough that I didn't get lost, and there were enough characters for the intrigue, but not so many as to get confusing. There wasn't much in the way of character development, unless you consider one character learning to be a submissive, but that wasn't the purpose of the book.
Ok, another freebie book, so why not. I'm not even sure where to start with describing this book. I thought it has a very well thought out sci-fi bent with alien planets, biological warfare, genocide, mutation leading to regular people with super powers, secret Weapon X like testing, complex tripod DNA sequencing, etc., which I thought was very interesting considering what I'm going to say next. By next I mean, this is also a very Rated X, free flowing sex romp overflowing with threesome and S&M bondage escapades. I guess that's interesting to some in its own right. I love sci-fi bents, but not so much bents by S&M contraption, but somehow it kind of works with this story... ok, never thought I would say that, ever!! Let's just say it was interesting and it kept the story flowing.
We have two alien races warring with each other. Earth seems pretty neutral. Further complicating things is that there is a resistance group known as the Mutant Underground, which is as advertised. People affected by the mutation develop extrasensory and/or superpowers as their mutation progress, to the point where their whole biology changes and they hide from the world. This is apparently a first book in a series. I really enjoy the sci-fi aspect of it, the love aspect was ok, the love making was a bit uncomfortable so I just skipped most of that. I think Project Runway's Tim Gunn will applaud Ross for "making it work!"
Only thing that I'm going to complain about in the "too convenient," department, and this is a spoiler... we discover Mal Ton is a shape shifter in the last few pages. I must have missed something while I was speed reading through this book, because I just thought he can walk through walls and was an empath and telepath. But I guess that opens up book 2.... I'm also curious to find out more about the Mutant Underground and what happened to the 11 women initailly tested with RENA who are missing (apparently some have military training... awesome!). As heroine Dr. Andrea Raynier indicated, the initial test subject's for RENA, including herself, stop aging! RENA has the ability to create an immortal race, which is far too unethical for Andrea, but very convenient for continued exploration in future books.
LOL, by this review, I am going to check out the next book in the series as there are a lot of unanswered questions that I would be interested in finding answers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

A brilliant storyline overshadowed by sex. I wanted to know about the mutation and follow the characters and their story. I am always confused by the Heroine who is so in lust with somebody that cannot see reason and she settles for her second best, more emotionally stable. I still cannot fathom sexual frustration used on a prisoner and at the same time a Dom in the stars. Well, author's choice. Yes I loved Mal Ton alpha attitude but the sex was too much for me. I ended up skipping pages to reach the end of the book. Not sure if I want to read more even if I liked Mal Ton and I wanted to see him fall in love and find a cure.....
My weakness for sexy sci-fi strikes again! I was totally down with this book. Totally. There was hot sexin', a little D/s fun and MUTANT ALIENS! Dude. I am so on board.
This book was a free Kindle download I picked up 08/31/12 for the Why Buy the Cow? reading challenge.
This was another freebie. And it was a quick read because it was only 9 chapter. I have just about had it with short books. For me it always seems that the story is rushed when it would have been a 4 to 5 stars if the story had been a novel where the story could have been explored more and the characters would have evolved if given the chance. Don't get me wrong the concept behind the book was GREAT. I just would have loved to have more. In the beginning of this book it seemed to revolve around sex. I mean I like a book that have quite a bit of sex in it. But I want story in equal parts. For me that didn't happen with this book. The sex over shadowed the story. And I was intrigued with the story. But it felt rushed.
I did enjoy the main characters. We had Mal Ton, who is a badass alpha man, Dom to the max and sexy as hell. Andrea who is our female love interest, a smart as hell scientist and sassy. Then we have Roark, also a scientist, and way more mellow than Mal Ton. The chemistry between Mal Ton and Andrea was off the charts. Their was also chemistry between Roark and Andrea but not to the extent that their was with Mal Ton.
And I hated the fuckin ending. Their could have been two other endings that would have made me happy. But as it was I was disappointed.
This is a series and as much as I would like to read more on Mal Ton I don't really think I would go further with this series.
This was a great story. Andrea, an earth scientist, is abducted in order to get her cooperation to engineer a cure. The cure is needed to reverse the effects of a genetic virus unleashed during a war between to worlds. Abduction can make a person unwilling to cooperate. So Andrea's captor, Mal Ton, uses his compatriot Roark, deception, and his powers of seduction to force Andrea to complete the cure. Really, the sex was too hot to be much of a motivator. Help us or I (Mal Ton) will force Roark to give you (Andrea) an orgasm? I did not buy that.
Doesn't matter though. The plot was strong enough to stand on it's own. There are two planets that have been at war for centuries. The worlds have been ravaged by both the conflict and the virus. One side unleashed the virus, but it back-lashed and ended up infecting both sides. Both worlds need Andrea's talent.
This was science fiction and not just because there were aliens and other worlds. The genetic science was interesting and convincing. There was plenty of intrigue and plotting. Interesting secondary characters filled out the action. It did seem to end a bit abruptly, however, there was enough there for me to call it a good read!
There were some interesting sci-fi ideas in this book. The idea of the different plants and species evolving and using viruses against each other was interesting. Where the author lost me was with the heroine, a genius with an array of degrees and results in DNA repair that was just too...convenient. And then she is kidnapped by the good guys (who look like bad guys). And suddenly they start having a whole bunch of sex. And still manage to save the world, etc. I just couldn't buy into it, nor did the sex scenes do much for me.
This book is probably the definition of deus ex machina. lol! Also, the science bits are left incredibly vague, and honestly I barely had any idea what was going on. Except with RENA, that was quite brilliant. The rest of it just seemed to have gotten tacked on by the author at random because she liked it or something... Also it had slight S&M, which is not my thing.
Contains menage but has an HEA for the two main characters. The romance suffered a bit because of the world-building but it was well written. I'm not sure if I want to continue on with the series for that reason.
Hooo boy! What a sensual, erotic book~ reminds me a bit of Calypso Masters writing. This plot was confusing to follow (interplanetary politics...meh) but the overall arc kept me reading and .... I really liked her choice at the end. **wink, wink**
I was not happy with the ending of the book. I was looking for a different ending then what I got. I loved the characters and the storyline but it was a little confusing at times. I love Aubrey Ross's books but this wasn't my favorite.
This was a great Sci Fi book to read and escape the hectic world for a while . Even though I didn't agree with the way he went about procuring the female to save the people of his world from a devastating mutation .
This book didn't end how I thought it should, and that dissapointed me. It also was far too short. The action at the end seemed rushed and didn't flow correctly. The story line was intriguing and I thought the characters had potential.
Just awful, from the absurd premise to the ridiculous conclusion. There is a way to write good sci-fi,and a way to write good erotic romance. This is NOT it.
I loved this story. I loved the blend of science fiction and futuristic erotic romance. I loved all of the characters. I look forward to more of the series.
