Planets fall. Mysteries are revealed. And the crew of the Adeona starts to crumble.
Can Jack unite the warring factions of the galaxy for long enough to stop the Prymalis? Or are the odds stacked too high against them?
Stuck on a very distant planet, with a looming universe ending threat, Jack and his ragtag bunch of allies must race back to civilisation to warn... well everybody.
Still one of the best scifi series on the planet, that just keeps getting better, although i am sensing the end, I don't want it to end!
The Edge of the night by TW Ashford. Final Dawn, Book 8. The crew of the Adeona are stranded on the extroplanet XO-R15 while the ancient Prymalis threat closes in on the cosmic community. Total galactic annihilation awaits. But even after Jack finally sends word to the Ministry, everybody’s too busy fighting each other to listen. Brilliant read. Read in one sitting. Gripping. 5*.
I do enjoy reading this series. I thought the general hopelessness in the face of invasion and utter destruction was written well. I was very worried about Jack's health. Sad that Klik has moved on but sometimes side characters need to get put in a closet for a time in order to further the plot. Love the weapon and have thoughts on how they'll achieve that planet-wide genocide scenario. I always get to the end and wish there was more. I would happily read these as bigger books but I understand the desire to turn them into shorter novels. I thought the chapter with Charon's demise was a bit of a Chekov's gun - will Jack end up rescuing him? Noticed that the title for book 9 was in the back of the book so happy dance.

Love, love, love this series. I am continually surprised that the story doesn't seem repetitive 8 books in. I think it's because the focus is on the characters and not the"science" of everything. Jack and everyone continue to struggle with personal choices and they don't always agree. I appreciate that they are open to new ideas.
Another great addition to a developing series worth the read!! If I were you, I would start at book one and BINGE your way to Book 8! It will be well worth the ride!!
The Edge of Night felt like Ashford at his best, balancing a sense of desperation with humour throughout the penultimate book of the Final Dawn series.
