As the planets aligned, something otherworldly began. The town of Storyville was shifting, and amid the night the townspeople would experience the most spectacular and supernatural happenings...
For over a year, FBI agent Coraline Pratt had been tracking the sadistic Postcard Killer. Forced to play his game, she followed the trail of breadcrumbs that stretched across the entire country to Storyville. A town with many mysteries and possibly even answers to Cora’s hidden past. From the moment she arrived in town, Cora felt something was different. But while Cora hunts for the elusive killer, a young girl from town is abducted. As she pivots to assist the local sheriff with finding her, Cora finds herself enveloped by a series of events that deepen the unknown.
While attempting to untangle the web she finds herself in the center of, she bears witness to strange things in town, things that defy rationality. The townspeople believe that it’s a malevolent omen, a sign of terrible things to come. And soon it seems that the killer drew Cora to Storyville believing she plays a key role in the twisted and terrible events that loom over the town.
They say your past has a way of catching up with you. For Cora Pratt, her past is going to change EVERYTHING...
Elle Gray lives in a small town with her 2 cats, and her handsome husky. As a girl, she was obsessed with crime novels and thrillers.
Today, she loves writing and creating thrilling novels with courageous, strong heroes/heroines and dangerous psychopaths. She invites you to join her exciting world of detectives and FBI agents that take down killers and kick butt.
Cora Pratt and her senior partner end up in the town of Storyville to suss out a serial killer and while the killer keeps leaving clues - nothing coalesces.
I really enjoy Elle Gray's books, but this was a disaster. I would Not recommend it unless you enjoy paranormal, unexplainable events. Cora is an FBI agent & her and her partner, Nolan are sent to Storyville to find the Postcard Killer. Cora is assaulted by paranormal events that give her feelings of having been in this location before. I found this story to be ludicrous, & beyond the pale.
Really enjoy the Blake Wilder books, and Pax Arrington. Have to say that I read the first Olivia Knight book and stopped there, think the same thing is going to happen with the Storyville series. Sorry just not what I expect from Ms. Gray.
Hi Friends, A horribly cobbled together story that happens in “a small Maine town” of 24,000 people, which would make this one of the 5 most populous cities in Maine. Here’s an idea, don’t write a novel based on a state you know nothing about; same reason I’ll never base a story in Kazakhstan And Cora, our hapless protagonist never would’ve passed the FBI psych examination. Not to mention the fact that our “author” has characters who “won’t rest until we find who abducted your daughter, let’s go do boilermakers (of Jameson & Red Stripe no less) at the local dive bar”. This is a serious event in this book, though a scene done much better as comedy in the first Naked Gun movie One can tell this is an independently published book, mainly because even a lousy book editor wouldn’t let the “author” use the phrase “within an inch of its life” in 3 consecutive paragraphs. And what the dickens is “the former floor of the fishery”. I didn’t know floors change into something else in closed businesses This book’s only real saving grace is that it’s only 228 pages long I am rounding my 1.5 stars up to a 2 just because the story idea has potential. Our “author” fails her premise. She needed to do some basic research, beg someone, deer god anyone, to proofread her drek before self publishing this kind of train wreck I’m just glad there’s a week left In 2024 that this mess won’t be the last book I read for the year. It’s been, by a wide margin, the worst book I’ve opened this year Reader beware
I like a good FBI serial killer mystery with a female FBI agent . This one has a possible metaphysical and cult twist. What I find annoying is Cora, the FBI upcoming super sleuth, but yet she is totally insecure about every decision she makes.
She's hunting a serial killer, and yet, she keeps jogging and trapsing through the woods alone without her partner, and surprise, surprise, she runs into the killer....but still doesn't tell her partner because maybe she dreamed it.
After stating she doesn't drink often and she has a bad track record with dating, she drinks and sleeps with a just met 2 days without knowing his involvement in the case.
She's riffing on her partner and blabbing about the case with the sheriff she just met and then gets angry when her partner calls her out on it.
Cora accuses her partner of being a chauvinist but then she is acting like a damsel in distress. (The Ole falling down in the woods and never firing her weapon)
It's a different spin of a story, but Cora made the book hard to read. I can't see myself continuing this series.
The brilliant Elle Gray introduces a new series featuring another badass female; FBI SA Coraline (Cora) Pratt.
That is all I will say about the plot. It's too good for spoilers. Read on and enjoy!
I will however, comment on Ms. Gray's ability to craft strong, accomplished protagonists. I have read all of her books in all of her series. This one had me rapidly reading at 4 am & PISSED at the suspenseful end, and very grateful for Kindle.
Thank you Ms. Gray for this new series. I'm off to read "Murder in the Mist".
Not typically the kind of read I get into. I'm an SF, action/adventure type. Went looking for something a bit different. Pace was a bit slow for me, but taking the time for character development isn't a priority in my normal read. Here, you get to know the players. Enjoyed the storyline, but was a bit frustrated that the lead investigator didn't dig into her own history. Won't play spoiler, but I think readers will know what I mean at the right point in the book.
I have read many of Elle Gray's books. This one is my favorite so far. All of her books are interesting mysteries yet each one is unique. The supernatural, cult thing in this book has got me hooked; can't wait to read book 2. As in other Elle Gray's books, there are several things in the story going on at the same time. This book has a tantilizing story line, Cora's relationships with her FBI partner, Noland, and the handsome sherriff of Storyville. All of it a bit intense. Where is all this going???
This was a good book, it was slow to start, though, and everything finally came to a head at the last 30 pages. It definitely has you wanting to read the next one, but I feel that’s all this book was— a prequel to what the main idea really is. I.e. if had to read about Harry Potter under the stairs for 3/4 of the book, then at the end he ends up at Hogwarts.
This story was a dry humdrum read. Definitely not a thriller in spite of how it is labeled. Not a romance either except that the supposed heroine out of the blue has the gots for a sheriff she met a day ago. Poorly written. Could have been a great thriller with a different writer.
I could barely put this book down. FBI murder mystery with a paranormal twist. Grateful it isn’t more gory, considering the content and manner of killing. The storyline is taught and tense, the subject matter grim. Still, it has moments of excitement and interesting turns. Can’t wait to continue the journey.
I can't say I didn't like this book because I did. Its just not my typical go to FBI thriller. The characters are realistic and interesting. The story line is somewhat X-Files. Don't let my option sway your interest who knows this might be what you're looking for. As always happy reading.
This is the first book I've read by Elle Gray, and let me tell you, it won't be the last. I was flipping pages so fast, and I they were running low, and there were too many unanswered questions. I hadn't realized it was the first in a series, but I'm hooked. I can't wait to read the next and will try some of her other books.
This is the start of another great series by Elle Gray. I love the sci-fi twist that this story has and cannot wait to see what is next! Thank you for always keeping us, your devoted readers, on our toes.
When I started this book, I didn't know it was going to have a paranormal thread. I'm also not sure about the paring of Cora and Nolan, it doesn't seem like the best partnership. There is no ending, just a big fat cliffhanger.
Very dramatic for an FBI agent working many cases. Lots of paranormal experiences and mostly unsolved murders except for one. Hard to put down. Excited to read the next novel!
I love the new characters and especially the paranormal twist! This is gonna be an exciting new series. It's well plotted and cleverly developed, not giving too much too soon. Well done!
Well I generally don't like stories like this, but this one held my interest as the mystery wasn't solved at the end. It is more sci-fi than I'm used to reading, but I'm Interested in reading the series to find out what happens to the characters.
This book is very eerie, it has such weird things happening. Cora Pratt is a FBI agent trying to stop a killer. Coming to the town of Story bills everything turns totally crazy for her and out of this world. I can't wait to read what's in store next.
Really a long drawn out story that has no ending! Big cop out if you ask me. Very unbelievable story of a serial killer and taking over the world! What a waste of good reading time. Don’t waste your time on this one.
......Filled with worldly and unworldly pieces of evidence and connections. Who knows what is to follow? Love the characters even if the plot is unpleasant at times. On to the next book!
Very interesting story. Once you began reading it was difficult to put the book down as you needed to know what happened next. All the mysterious things Cora experienced were unreal but they happened. Can't wait to see what else happens at Storyville.
This one had me from the very begining. Lots of twist and turns you will be forever try to figure this one out!! Not happy on the ending. On to the second book!! Keep them coming Elle Gray
I'm sorry but I have to say this is the first twins I have been disappointed I a book by this Author. Maybe because I'm not a fan of the paranormal and I really dislike when I read for this long and the story doesn't end.
I'm liking the two partners, old way against new way of thinking. The story line is a little bit different, but I think I'm going like it. Oh crap another cliffhanger
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I enjoyed this book very much with mystery of what is going on with much suspense and drama and how Cora is involved in the past of Storyville. The killings are strange with the happenings. Thank you
This book was really good. The story was very twisted. It was kind of erie. I like the characters. It had me on the edge till the end. Can't wait for the next book!
I am an avid reader of Elle Gray books! This series is definitely taking a different turn for her writing but I loved it all the same! I can’t wait for the Storyville Book 2!
I liked the book other than her arguing with her partner. I didnt like that. I will be looking g forward to the next book. I just hope they stop disrespecting each other.
