Jasper the Cat and Scruff the Dog have their own restaurant with their special signature dish, a cheese sandwich. When a fancy restaurant opens across the street, the recipe for their signature dish is mysteriously stolen, and the fancy restaurant announces that they will be serving a special cheese sandwich! How can Jasper and Scruff compete with the fanciness? Jasper comes up with a whole new menu, hoping to impress the food critics. But their new menu is a disaster! Jasper and Scruff learn that they can count on their loyal costumers to keep their restaurant afloat.
This is such a fun book! Jasper and Scruff are hilarious! I loved all the twists and turns of the plot, and how the two friends are resilient and resourceful through every circumstance. There are a few paragraphs of text on each page, making this the perfect type of book for children who are learning to read small chapter books on their own.
The illustrations are really cute and I love the designs for all the animals characters! Every page is so colorful.

Colorful illustrations complement this amusing story about friendship and ambitions. Jasper and Scruff, best friends who happen to be a dog and a cat, have opened up Paws Cafe, a diner that is doing well until another restaurant attracts plenty of notice and may be stealing their customers. It's a rather pretentious place, owned by Lady Catterly and boasting small portions and sophisticated cuisine. Jasper decides to fight fire with fire and begins tinkering with his own offerings, but he has forgotten that his loyal customers liked things just as they were before. When a food critic arrives to check out his dishes, Jasper hopes for a rave review, but someone has sabotaged his plans. As is the case with the earlier three titles in this series, readers will find plenty of laugh-out-loud humor, clever puns, and a friendship that can survive a bout of trouble. This is a fast read and one that allows readers to forget their own troubles as they root for its protagonists. While much of it's predictable, it's still fun to go along for the ride.
