This is a new title in "Young Reading Series Two", part of the Usborne Young Reading Programme, which is aimed at children whose reading ability and confidence allows them to tackle longer and more complex stories. Shakespeare's classic comedy is retold in this title. When Viola is left shipwrecked on the coast of Illyria, she must disguise herself as a boy for protection. But when she becomes a page for Duke Orsino, things start to get a little complicated. This title is developed in consultation with Alison Kelly, who is a senior lecturer in education and an early reading specialist from Roehampton University.
It was SO fun reading this short novella based on the original play by Shakespeare. The simplicity of the sentences and all. I'm for sure going to buy the original play and read it.
first story I ever bought and read alone when I was 7 years old, and i love it so much. I longed to have another one that filled me with the same feeling when I was little before I discovered my love for reading, and it truly all began with this story. I reread it every once in a while and its one of my favorites ever.
It was a good quickie. Classic in a children's book :) I read it for WhittyNovels' Cramathon, of course. If I were 5, I'd love this one. Now excuse me while I question my 16 year old self as to why I read such books XD
We read it because we have forgotten the names of the twin, the Duke, the Lady and his steward, the Lady's uncle and his best friend and the jester. The plot is complicated but well thought out.
Twelfth Night is one of my favorite Shakespeare's plays. This is a great book for young readers to get to know the play. But wished it was a little longer.
