My kiddo has been a bit pirate obsessed since reading Peter Pan earlier this year but all the Pixie Hollow fairy books have won out over this one for a couple of months now. But then we ran into a real pirate (actor) on the streets of St. Augustine and my daughter told him all about her favorite pirates and that we were reading this book next. We started as soon as we got home! It wasn't as thrilling as we'd hoped (or from what I remember - this was one of my favorite adventure stories as a kid) but it was a quick, fun read anyway. My kiddo kept asking when Hook was going to show up!
Sometimes the plot moved a little too fast to follow easily, but overall not too bad for an abbreviated/abridged version. I've never ready the full version, so it's hard to compare. But my 6-year-old son that I read it with enjoyed it.
