Finally! A book that actually would prepare a new teacher AND help teachers who have been in the schools for a few years. I was very impressed at how thorough of a job the two authors did! It is obvious that they are speaking for their own experience as teachers and administration. It has very real to life examples, situations, and ways to correct or prepare for challenges that arise in school. I would recommend this book for anyone who is within the first five years of their teaching career or is struggling with classroom management. The only flaw I found while reading is that it felt more applicable to situations in middle school and high school where you only have the kids for one class period instead of all day like you would in elementary. But most of the concepts were very easy to apply to any grade level. Over all, two thumbs up!

Okay, this book was really helpful, practical, and reassuring, and I totally should have read it sooner than the night before school starts.

That said: down-to-earth advice with tips for implementation, whether you're completely new or you've been teaching a while. Without being cheerleadery, it manages to be calming and convince you that you really CAN do this, even if last year was a train wreck and you're approaching your second year with a mix of optimism and dread.

Maybe that's just me.
