Giving it 4 stars cause the paragraph flow is confusing at times.
Overall a very good book with a lot of information packed into it. Without making a tomb of a book it is hard to go into all areas. It does a good job of explaining potential risks, issues and things to look out for when becoming pregnant all the way through to what may happen to your child in utero to what sort of things can go wrong right up through birth.
On a fact-finding mission for my newly pregnant best friend I tackled this book. I picked it because it was one of the newer books at my library and had a lot of nice pictures (hey, I admit it, that should count for something).
It didn't really go into a WHOLE lot of depth. I liked the anecdotes from current/soon-to-be moms. The fake "recaps" were stupid, it was obvious that the information on the pages was being rewritten into a faux-scenario to reiterate the salient points.
Visually, the book is great. I didn't find enough of the information my friend was hoping for, and ended up going to another book (still working on that one) for the bits I was asked to get: more in-depth nutrition, week-to-week symptoms, and development information. I could see this book as helpful to someone who really needs the information delivered in a painless, visually appealing format.
Opted to buy this book when I first found out I was pregnant over the "What to Expect When Your Expecting" books that everyone seems to live by. I love love love this book. Colorful, full of pictures and very helpful information. Helpful lists for packing for the hospital, what you need for the baby, and more :)
