The teen and college years are a crucial time for girls, when positive or negative views about their bodies often become manifest. Written to eating disorder sufferers who are at this critical age, Thin Enough provides hope that, through faith and trust in God, they too can rise above the living death of eating disorders and arise as God’s daughters, full of life and with a promising future.
Definitely a book that would have more value to me if I'd been more interested in the spiritual side of the story. Okay as far as memoirs go, but fairly single-minded. There were a lot of worksheets scattered throughout the book which looked interesting, but they're a bit useless to anyone who doesn't follow Christianity. Kind of a pity - I'd hoped for more out of this book - but it might do for somebody who is looking for a (solely) religious approach to things.
It was good, and a lot of the information was helpful, but some not so realistic. I don't think just reading the Bible is going to help me be "recovered". Although, it may work for some people, and I do read the Bible, it's just going to take more than this book to get me through my eating disorder. It's worth reading if you are struggling with any form of an eating disorder because she struggles with bulimia, anorexia, and compulsive over eating.
I suppose this book may be more helpful for those looking to approach this from a purely spiritual angle, but I found that I couldn't "buy" her story. Maybe I'm cynical. My faith has been extremely important part of me and my recovery, but it does not explain the descent or the rise.
Excellent read for those wanting to know what it is like for someone to have an eating disorder. It is important to know that this is the account of a miraculous deliverance. This does not happen to every Christian with an eating disorder. I hope the people with an eating disorder reading this book can feel empowered to take a deeper look at family of origin relationships. I wish she had spent more time talking about the turning points. I also would like to know if she is still in counseling, what kind of medical support she has and accountability. I would recommend reading it as it will give the reader informed compassion for loved ones with eating disorders.
