Since I have a comixiology sub I could catch up to the individual chapters. To not clutter my reader list i rather wrap my review in the final volume of this story.
First...the notice of the final chapter took me by surprise, i thought this shounen manga was going to be very long because there was an immediate invest in its translation and easy access, to me this was a sign of a manga with big plans. Whether the final chapter was planned all along or the story got cut early after no much sucess is a mystery. However, I do know the artist has been dealing with distressful physical pain in their drawing hand for months. Despite it, they kept up with their projects but i suspect the situation influenced ASHIDAKA's early end.
After the Demon Dismantling Army beat the Blue Demon, and faced Yashka and his group on volume 3; the final volumen is about Ashidaka and the Demon Dismantling Army going straight to destroy the hundred-pair red demon, the biggest threat on earth, and stopping it before it goes to an oil island to give birth to millions of clones will define the destiny of the world.
The battle is more difficult than expected, things don't look bright for the team, though Ashidaka's actions will be the thin thread that defines the fate of humanity.
Final thoughts: The story as a whole - I'm not accustomed to the shounen format, so to me it lacked a bit more characterization, still all the characters are distinguishable enough and their style is cool. The plot is very straight forward, expected ending and all, certainly it's the most positive thing i've read in a while so i can't really complain about the upcome, even if it feels rushed. The message is alright. However, I...don't see this story becoming super popular anytime soon, my recurrent thought throughout this manga was that it lacked momentum, i was always waiting for something *truly* exciting to happen and it kiiiinda got exciting by the time they faced the true form of the Red Demon, but the end crashed it. Maybe is a me thing, as i say...i'm not a shounen reader so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Art-wise, i liked it, it's super dynamic and Ryo excells at monsters designs. I like that the robots are centipede inspired, these are my favorite insects so there's a bias in there. All my respect for how they managed to publish this every month despite their health situation. They're preparing more stories... so i hope they find some rest in between.
