You know, when you're sick, and lying on, what feels at the time, to be your deathbed, you want to read something that cheers you up, transports your consciousness someplace magical that makes you forget your unfortunate reality, especially if that something claims to be a book about fairytales. NOT something that seems to be helping you on your way.
I would warn all parties to stay far, fucking away from anthology books about fairytale retellings. I have a few reasons why you should do that:
Out of the one billion forty stories in this anthology, there were perhaps, a grand total of THREE that were remotely tolerable. The rest were a mix of awful, bland, sex-heavy, gibberish, pretentious, bleak and upsetting. Author's Notes are supposed to shed light on that crap, not make it more confusing which is precisely what more than 3/4 of these Author's Notes did.
