I have read some of Phillip Keller’s books in the past and enjoyed them, so I picked this up based on that. I won’t lie this was one of those books that I just kept reading so I could finish, not necessarily because I was enjoying it. The last two chapters were solid though!
This was such a beautifully written book. W. Phillip Keller has an incredible skill for conveying grounded truth and solid principles in the most eloquent, poignant and memorable ways. His approach is gentle yet unwavering, and I appreciated the studied comparisons between the life of trees and of our own souls played out in this book.
Just a simple, refreshing look at the cedars of Lebanon. Not every chapter holds the same weight, but a wonderful read nonetheless. Peaceful, if that makes any sense.
The opening chapter starts the book talking about the cedars of Lebanon. The rest of the book compares natural growth of a tree to spiritual truths in the life of a believer.
AS A TREE GROWS is one of those books that you will want to buy for others because you won't want to loan your copy~ I have read it more than once! It's full of seed for growing "...like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season..." and "like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God...". In due season, we grow in to the image of Christ, and are "called, a Trees of Righteousness".
This book explains in simple laymans' language how one can grow in godliness by compairing parallel principles of natural growth in the life of a tree with supernatural truth in the life of a believer. You will marvel at the insights into how a child of God can "grow like a cedar in Lebanon". Fantastic book!
Short (14 chapters totalling less than 92 pages), simple, and profitable teaching on how a Christian can move forward and grow deeper in his spiritual life. I was particularly blessed reading it through for a second time.
