Synopsis: "What makes Planet Earth so special? It’s the only planet to have anything living on it for a start... But it also has fiery volcanoes, magnificent mountains, scorching deserts and icy landscapes. Learn all about it in this easy to read book."

My Review: Munchkin is a very literal little kid, he loves learning facts so the Usborne non-fiction books are perfect for him. With that said, this is put out there as a level 2 beginning reader book but it is far too long and dense to be that, it would be closer to a level 4 book. It is extremely long with a lot of facts packed into it. It does have some beautiful pictures and does a good job breaking down the facts and explaining them in understandable terms. While we did enjoy this book it had to read over several weeks because it was just too much to take in all at once for a young reader.

This book talks about everything to do with earth, from where it is in the solar system to rocks to rivers to underground caves to the ocean to ice to the coast to deserts. My first reaction to this book is it would be a great resource to have the students use for a project. The illustrations include real pictures and cartoon pictures which are helpful to students I would use this would 3rd grade because it is pretty lengthy and includes a lot of topics. I would use this as a resource for children to use before/during a project on one of the topics in this book.

This book is an expository writing purposely written for readers to take information away from the text. It goes through a variety of things on our planet earth such as mountains, rivers, deserts, caves, oceans and even including space. The illustrations are placed in the middle of the page with small excerpts all around it. This book could great use at the lower elementary level with the pictures, easy to read text, and could be a positive example of how books use table of contents because children at that age are just learning how books and there parts work.

This is another great, informative book about Earth and various land masses. There are descriptive pictures, processes, and interesting facts. Again, this could be used for any age group because it's full of useful information.

A great overview of all things planet earth, from rivers to mountains. Good for a your earth science introduction. Easy to sit and read this all at once, or take your time and read each spread and study that subject.
