I am a huge fan of the late Derek Prince! I consider him a truly anointed minister of Jesus Christ and have agreed wholeheartedly with almost everything I have read or heard from him. So when I spotted this book in a used bookstore, I eagerly snapped it up!
As with other books by this author, this volume was both instructive and practical. Derek Prince covers the topics of the lordship of Christ, God's plans for our lives, how He calls and then equips each believer for his/her unique place in the body of Christ, and so on. I particularly appreciated his coverage of Romans 12, as it relates to this.
Unlike most of Prince's other books, I did disagree with his coverage of the spiritual gifts by which God equips us for ministry. The author made too much of classifying the gifts, where the Scriptures don't really justify that. He also identified hospitality as a gift; whereas it is something all believers are commanded to exercise (like tithing).
His chapters on witchcraft and legalism, which hinder our ministries, were very insightful. I also appreciate the author's teaching on the Holy Spirit and how we must surrender our self will to follow Him. I t was great how he wrapped up the book by explaining how we serve as Christ's representatives on earth, just as He represented the Father.
If you're looking for a book that explains your calling and purpose even better than Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life, I highly recommend this one. Just don't build a system of doctrine about what he says on the gifts.
I was disappointed this wasn't more practical. Seemingly good theology. But the title led me to believe it would be a little more about finding your assignment. Instead it seemed to be all about the foundation you need in order to find your assignment. Perhaps worth it for me to ponder the contents more, but I felt let down.
Derek Prince makes a simple and straightforward statement about finding God’s Will for a Christian’s life. It doesn’t make life a rose garden but it does give a life meaning and purpose in finally finding His Will. This book is practical and spiritual and a solid guide for discovering the Christian’s place in God’s Kingdom.
The book examined gifts in the church which we could partake in the ministry. The author argue that after God foreknowledge and predestined us, then come the call. We need to used our gifts for the call.
