There are those who would love to rid themselves of painful memories, to forget nasty pasts and mistakes. They say its hell to live with those memories. I say its hell to live without them. I have no memories of my past, my friends or family.
I owe my life to the Fae who discovered me bleeding and nearly dead at their doorway. They saved me and offered me a new life, regardless of my past. So I’ve served the Fae and the Shields since that day. My special knowledge of herbs and healing has been needed to save the Shields countless times. They are my brethren, my family, yet I am alone.
No matter where I search or what questions I ask, I discover nothing to open a doorway in my mind of locked memories. Until I catch a glimpse of a woman who seems as familiar to me as breathing.
Danielle.
Though she claims to not know me, our bodies know each other. Yet, I agonize over what she keeps hidden in the depths of her haunted hazel eyes. I fear the dark thoughts that lurk in my heart, and wonder at any black deeds in my past. If what I dread comes to pass, death will not come swift enough.
Above all, I must keep Danielle safe. She is the only one that has quieted my soul and shown me what serenity was.

This was a very good last installment to a very enjoyable series. I grew fond of the Shields and I'm glad they all got their happy ending. The only problem I have is that Amory didn't get his own book.
I loved this series! This is exactly the type of story that readers want and expect from Donna Grant. Gabriel has never remembered his past but when Jayna arrives at Stone Crest Castle, he can't help but feel like she's tied to his memories. With the final confrontation against the Great Evil looming over the Shields, Gabriel doesn't have time to be distracted by one innocent woman. I would highly recommend this series to fans of the PNR genre.
This book, A Warrior's Heart, gives the story of Gabriel, the final Shield. An exciting tale that pretty neatly wraps up all the loose ends. The Shield's series needs to be read in order to understand and appreciate everything that happens. And, once finished, I would tell you to read the Druid's Glenn series where you might find the stories of a few Fae that are familiar to you....thank you Donna Grant for continuing to write the books that come to life with your words.
Revenge is a fickle bitch!! Gaberial's memory was hidden from him and his old love helped him get some of his memories back but when he knows most but not all he will do what it takes 2 make amends of what happened in his past. Thank God his he still had his wolfhound!! After the power that the evil had a little but more goodness and help tip the balance back 2 what it should b.
A wonderful conclusion to the series. I throughly enjoyed The shields and the women that loved them. Gabriel has always intrigued me and his back story heartbreaking, however the story was full of supernatural characters and with the help of the Fae, anything was possible. The epilogue was the icing on the cake.
loved it!!!!!!!! complete full circle. I total love this last book and as far as last books go it was perfect, everyone got a happy ending and lots of babies. Great series Donna grant can't wait to finish your dark world series, just about to start dark warrior.
The Shields #5 - what can I say an excellent read - Donna did not disappoint. Keep them coming on to my next Donna Grant book - just love reading anything by her.
Picked this up because read Donna Grant before, hadn't realised I was out of sync and therefore no idea what all the revenge storyline was about. Did however then recall that the characters keep saying nay which only ever should come out of the mouths of scots!
Ok book to fall asleep to though, the audio narrator has a very calming tone!
I just finished reading the 5 books in the series The Shields. It was easy to see how Donna progressed not only the series and story line but her writing skills as well. I highly recommend the series and then move on to her other books. Enjoy.
I could not put down any of the books in this series. There were still some unanswered questions but overall a great read. Donna Grant did not disappoint.
Bitter sweet ending. Loved this series it was not a genre I usually get into, but I quickly fell in love with the 1st book, and had to follow up with the next 4. The steamy parts aren't really my style, but I had no issue surpassing them, and moving on. The final epilogue truly tied up all loose ends.
REVIEW: A WARRIOR’S HEART is the fifth and final instalment in Donna Grant’s The Shield series. The Shield series focuses on a group of ancient warriors, all from different realms and times, hoping to rid the world of The Great Evil. With the help of the Fae, the Shields must locate and gather the Chosen. It is said the Chosen were sent as infants to other realms, to protect them from the evil. And along the way, the five Chosen will meet up with the Shields and their power will bring an end to The Great Evil’s reign. Each warrior had hidden a painful and terrible past only to be confronted with the reality that some things are not as they appear.
Gabriel is the last of the Shields to find his mate, but Gabriel’s past is a mystery. Found near death years before, Gabriel is nursed back to health by the Fae, only to discover his memories are gone and the little that he does remember, are of blood, death and betrayal. But a stranger will arrive at the Castle that tugs at Gabriel’s heart and for some reason she is eerily familiar to the warrior. When his memories finally return, Gabriel knows that his past has finally caught up with him, and retribution and revenge are only a few of the things on her mind.
A WARRIOR’S HEART is a well written, fast paced conclusion to The Shields by Donna Grant. Donna brings together a world of warriors and fae, shapeshifters and demons, omnipotent powers and immortal beings. She mixes a little of the Scottish Highlander with the fantasy of otherworldly beings and pulls the reader into a maelstrom of the power of love. If you like a little bit of fantasy with your Highland warrior The Shield series by Donna Grant is the perfect read.
The final book to The Shields series has all 5 shields and the Chosen as they collect together to end the danger by evil bent on annihilating all the realms. This time the monsters are even harder to beat as they get stronger each time one is destroyed.
Gabriel has memory loss and knows nothing of his past while Jayna does know his past. This is where the story gets really good. Jayna is out for revenge.
The reader will be taken on a merry chase as evil and Jayna start to wreak havoc in the lives of all the people in Stone Crest. This book is a great ending to this imaginative storyline.
4.5 STARS
Narrator Antony Ferguson, another solid 5 STARS because he is so unforgettable.
A Warrior's Heart is the final in the Shields series and all I can say is this, it went out with a bang. From beginning to end, you will be captured into a magical world where evil tries to take over good. A truly captivating story filled with such vivid imagery where you'll believe your watching a movie and bring on the popcorn. The characters were flawless leaving the reader without a doubt their suitability for each other. The story was fast paced, gripping and a story you'll not be putting down once you begin reading. Excellent!!!
A Warrior's Heart is the final book in The Shields series... It had me hooked from the very first page! I was looking forward to Gabriel's book since the beginning! He is the strong, sexy, quiet warrior who feels lost when he cannot remember his past. He is a loyal friend and warrior who has a fear of learning who he was before he lost his memory. This wonderful book had me on edge wanting to know what would happen next! You will not be disappointed in A Warrior's Heart! Another 5 star Donna! Such a great ending, but I am sorry to see the series finished!
A Warrior's Heart is the final installment in DG's The Shields series. This is Gabriel's story the Shield with no past. Gabriel is the mysterious one of the group, he can heal anything and he plays things close to his chest. Jayna is the leading lady, she is out for revenge against the man she loved who betrayed her and her family. Secrets will be revealed, truths given and a Great Evil to defeat. DG brings The Shields all together so they can defeat evil and save All The Realms. I enjoyed this story and series. Happy Reading!
I am so sorry to see this series come to an end and I will miss reading about the Shields and their loves. The stories of Hugh, Mina, Roderick, Elle, Cole, Shannon, Val, Nicole and now Gabriel and Jayna were all a very enjoyable read. Ms. Grant was able through her wonderful way of writing, for you to feel the trust and love they felt for each other as a family as each one overcame the obstacles in their lives.
Finally! We find out Gabriel's back story! This was an appropriate ending to a great series. I enjoyed this book but I wanted to slap Danielle for the first half of the book. It was very fast-paced and full of action. The Great Evil pulls no punches in this book. It was a wonderful ending to a great series!
"A Warrior's Heart" by Donna Grant. Book 5 (Finale) in The Shields series.
Loved the ending to this series. Gabriel's story with the love of his life, Jayna. We finally find out what happened to Gabriel before he lost his memory.
A Warrior's Heart, a perfect ending to the Shields Series. Gabriel and his fellow Shields were able to battle and defeat the Great Evil with Jayna's help, the fifth Chosen. Donna Grant did not disappoint.
This was an intense and very involved addition to The Shields series from Donna Grant. I loved how things have developed and evolved with romance and complications. This time the dynamics may have just change and added an additional component that no one was expecting.
I don't think Donna could have wrapped up the series better... Action, adventure, surprise, intrigue, emotion, heart, and a VERY happy ending! Wonderful book. :)
I read all five books in the series and couldn't wait to get to the next. Between time travel, mythical creatures and the Fae world I couldn't put it down. Very well done
