Serial killing, cannibalistic furries! PLASTIC and VINYL creators DOUG WAGNER and DANIEL HILLYARD are back. This time they’ve recruited colorist extraordinaire RICO RENZI for their disturbing “neon-horror” spin on fursuit psychopaths and bizarre love. In PLUSH, Devin Fulcher is coerced into attending his first furry convention. When he accidentally happens upon a group of furries devouring a human, the insanity begins. Do they just want Devin for dinner… or something much more wicked? Collects PLUSH #1-6
More stupid violent fun from this duo and I LOVE IT.
I don't even care how ridiculous the plots are (very). The more bizarre the concept, the better (cannibalistic furries going on a killing spree to protect the new guy). This is just my kind of batsh*t insane fun.
Art is as crazy as the story, with vibrant colours and vivid murder scenes.
This is not at all for the erudite, but those who love chaotic, wild horror like I do should be entertained.
You've got to love a story where the everyman protagonist runs into a cult of cannibal furries, and it's not even the worst thing that happens to him that day. Hell, it might even be the best. And they say that the rom-com is in decline!
3.5/5 rounded up. Gorier than Plastic from what I remember but bogged down by lots of talking and the emotional core Doug Wagner brings in. I don't mind him trying to tell a human story but this felt like it was trying to be fun goofy murderous romp and the human story about who we choose to marry felt a bit awkward when put into it. To my knowledge Plastic, Vinyl, and Plush which are all written by Doug Wagner and inked by Daniel Hillyard are sorta seen as a trio. Mostly for the rompy gorefest each is. Similar to Plastic we got a down on our luck protag but this time he’s not the killer. Instead he’s teaming up with the killers, who end up being kooky furries that are occasional murderous canniabals, against shitty cops in a small town (very similar to the cops in Plastic). It's a fun and extremely engaging premise that leads to lots of fun over-the-top gore (especailly from the canine fursuit girl). The action is fun and exciting. Compared to Plastic there seemed to be a lot more dialogue and talking. Plastic had a good amount of talking too but it was give you more info about the crazy serial killer whereas here it's split between that and a love story. For how much dialogue there was that got in the way of gory fun I was expecting a bit more. But there is a story with some neat hear but it can create some heavy downtime especially in the halfway point. Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard are an amazing duo for these sort of stories. Hillyard's art-style gives fun campy detailed gore. And props to Rico Renzi as the colorist. He shifts the colors to these intense neons during certain scenes normally the bloody ones and it works perfectly for the vibe Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard set up.
Certainly the weirdest book I've been suggested all year. I wanna know how wacked out Wagner had to be to pitch "furries cannibals who murder corrupt cops". Violent and vibrant as all hell too. Only in non big two comics.
Man's friend takes him to a furry bar to forget his troubles. Man stumbles on cannibal family of furries. Man has no choice but to go with them as chaos ensues. Checked out this book because I love the art style. Fun read.
El dibujo es espectacular. Y ya. La historia no tiene ningún sentido, no se explica nada y nada de lo que ocurre lleva a ningún sitio. Menudo despropósito.
I have to say, this was one very wierd comic. And I could not stop reading it.
To call the starting premise odd is not a stretch; but then to see the directions it chooses to take - well I can definitely say that the writer surprised me somewhat along the way.
Basically a young dude named Devin has just exited a shite relationship and his friend gently coerces him to attend his first ever furry-party at which time he promptly abandons him to his own devices. Things go from odd to odder and more then as Devin stumbles upon a group of cannibal-furries, is arrested by his father-in-law-to-be who is also the sheriff and wants Devin for a son-in-law because of his families wealth and to consolidate power - and then the furries are back and there is violence and gore galore! Things escalate from there as Devin ends up kind of dragged along by the furry-people-eaters who are a family and they are being chased by the would-be-law and you can guess that it doesn't get gentler or less bloody from there onward.
Full marks for a comic where I was never sure who was meant to be the hero or if anyone really even was and it was just all mostly terrible people doing horrible things to each other and nothing mattered. But I cannot deny that it was an engaging read - in no small part due to the artwork which was on the more cartoonish and less realistic side and was also extremely bright and colourful and it all felt a bit surreal.
Read it if you like a little ultra-violence in your entertainment, like things that are just plain weird or if you have a morbid curiosity to try out something new and the above all hits a note in your mind.
So... I think I got the formula: serial killers as (anti-)heroes, series tend to not start very strong, causing lots of eye-rolls, but manage to build into a fun and mostly satisfying end with some tongue-in-cheek humor. Also, physics be damned, especially concerning the human body.
Well, it works - if you can get past the absurd physics in what is supposedly a "normal" world and not a superhero one, it really works. It's like weekend horror movies with friends all over again: do not take it too seriously, and it goes down better with some pizza and beer.
Most importantly, it never pretends otherwise. Ir reads "horror slapstick comedy gore" with big neon letters all over it, so I guess good job.
A group of cannibalistic furries recruit a down-on-his-luck guy who has to deal with his cheating fiancée and his overbearing future father-in-law. The story is pretty nonsensical and gruesome, as is consistent with the previous collaborations between Wagner and Hillyard (see "Plastic" and "Vinyl"), but I do feel like we're seeing diminishing returns here. There's only so much a silly concept like this can carry, and six issues is really pushing it. The story is light so it's not like this was a tedious read or anything, but it also doesn't really feel as original or memorable as it should for a comic with this subject matter.
This is a sweet graphic novel about young love and discovering a found family, as well as escaping a bad social situation. OK, it's also a horror story about falling in with a group of cannibal furries.
Plush is just the thing I needed to read in COVID isolation. It's funny, gleefully weird, and enthusiastically violent.
There's a nice easter egg around page 3 which calls back to Vinyl (my review).
Plush is not great. Its underdeveloped writing and absurd premise doesn't help. It would be one thing if the story went off the edge into full-blown absurdity but ultimately this is just an underdeveloped cult of cannibals who are furries. Sure, it sounds like it could be a cool story, which is the reason I gave it a shot. It just relies on its surface level art and story to lead the way through about 140 pages in which the novelty of the premise wears off on about the 15th page.
Needed a quick read before a trip and chose this one. I read the number one and knew I wanted to trade wait, as I liked the idea of murderous furries. However I found there was more to it(even if it is a miniseries), I liked the idea of found family as well as strangers who see that there is more to you than you realize. There were some aspects that could have been expanded upon, the main lead was developed decently throughout.
Stupid and not as fun as plastic, but a idea I never heard of.
Basically a bunch of furries going around killing people, and then cops get involved, then it's cops vs man eating furries and...yeah it's weird. I dunno who I'd recommend this to but if want something way left field, try this one out.
Crazy, bloody and furry ride. It was quite fun, but I think I liked Plastic more, this one is quite forgettable for me, and furies - even the psycho killing and cannibal type, are not really my thing. Not great not terrible...
Its an unique cast with a plot to match. I never thought I'd read about killer furries but here I am. It's really fun ans I enjoy the complexities of humans. I enjoy these two authors work! I've read Plastic and Vinyl and enjoyed them both too!
3.5 ⭐️ The art style was super enjoyable. Daniel Hillyard’s work is chef’s kiss👌. The story was … unique? Still trying to decipher how I feel. I mean, I liked it but at the same time… what did I just read?! 🤔
It was alright, nothing to write home about. The plot was a bit everywhere, and it didn't really feel engrossing. It was a bit more offensive and backward than anything.
ABsolutely loved this whole trilogy! Graphic as hell. Like a car crash you can't look away and will quickly devour the books. *Digital copy downloaded via Hoopla from my public library*
It’s gory and strange even for a bunch of furies going around eating people. I think Happy! Was gorier and it was out there but still made a little more sense. It was enjoyable though.
