Wayne Barrett and Anne MacKay are a professional photographic team that have published numerous books including True Colors A Writer's Garden, and the award winning Spirit of Place. They live in St. Catherines, Prince Edward Island.
In the Gulf of St. Lawrence, near Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, is the Canadian province known as Prince Edward Island. I have met several people from there and caught their enthusiasm about this small part of Canada.
I have yet to travel there but continue to read about it. This book has a nice preface by one of the photographers, Wayne Barrett, that leads me to believe that things such as farming, fishing and shell-fishing change more slowly here than in other parts of Canada and the USA.
The book though thin, is in "coffee table format" with each photograph being given a separate large page. The photographs take in a wide swath of culture and commerce as well as displaying P.E.I.'s natural beauty. If I read the publication data correctly the photographs were taken between 1951-1980.
Several generations have passed and it makes me want to get there soon to see what has changed and what has stayed the same.
