Collage is a fine art combination of paper and shape, color and texture, imagination and vision. This book can help you bring all of these together in one beautiful creation. Here you'll see magnificent collages by leading artists who show you—in step-by-step demonstrations—how to begin, how to design, how to apply collage techniques in exciting ways. Plus you'll get your chance to use those techniques with nearly fifty projects that challenge you to do your most creative work.
This book is 20 years old now. It was thorough when published, but in 2022 mixed media uses collage in different ways now. Currently the emphasis is on making “collage fodder” routinely. Why? A number of small collages, with varied colors & materials, create plenty of choices, already made, when working on a series of art pieces or taking one of the countless online classes from mixed media artists around the world. Look up “collage fodder” and be amazed - or take a year long set of classes by varied mixed media artists/teachers.
I had a lot of fun with this art book. It is a step-by-step guide with lots of good ideas for the collage artist. Starting with a treasure hunt for collage materials and ending with instruction of how to make marbled and handmade papers. It is for beginners but also for experienced artists who just need some fresh inspiration for their work. I have done just some of the fifty projects that they outline in this book but I am looking forward to trying some more. I also like that you can see the collages of over sixty artists from Peter Tytla to Delda Skinner.
